EVENTS: Local Author Book Fair at Grant

        BY: BOOKMANS

Thurs, Jan 31, from 1-3 p.m.: join us at the Grant store for a taste of Arizona talent at our local author fair, with signings and readings from Alan Mussell, Chuck Clayton, Charlie Rose, Ralph Kiesling, Jim Duzak and Gail Jaundry.

On Thurs., Jan. 31, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., BOOKMANS GRANT will host a local author fair featuring a line-up of Arizona writers signing and selling their books throughout the afternoon. Many will be conducting readings in the community room as well. A variety of genres will be represented, including self help, memoir, science fiction, and children's.

The signing schedule is as follows (with reading schedule to be announced):

        1 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

        Alan Mussell
Alan Mussell has taught in seven countries for over 24 years. He is an avid student of history and has traveled widely, incuding France and the Middle East, where he did extensive research for his novel "The Last Crusade," a story of  a young boy caught up in the religious persecutions in Southern France in the early years of the 13th century. As he matures he becomes increasingly unable to relate his experiences to the restrictive fundamentalism of his Cathar faith. This is a tale of political intrigue, self-discovery, and ultimately of love. Mussell is now retired and lives with his wife in Oro Valley, Arizona.

        Chuck Clayton (website)
Chuck Clayton's primary education and 30+ years of professional experience is as a Principal engineer and business problem solver. Do you: Have a difficult time making decisions? Spend too much for electric bills, cars, vacations and more? Waste too much time? Need a confidence boost? Feel frustrated and overwhelmed? Spend too much money and time on projects? Want a better future for yourself? The book Chuck has written, "The Re-Discovery of Common Sense: A Guide to the Lost Art of Critical Thinking" is a practical guide to teach concepts, methods and resources to make great decisions, save time, shop smarter and create a fun life for yourself. The book uses easy to follow practical examples, step by step procedures and is an entertaining read.

        Charlie Rose (website)
From author Bruce Swanson, about "Corpsman Up!": "Corpsman Up!" is much more than Doc Rose's sharing of the often horrific experiences of a one U.S. Corpsman in Vietnam. We learn that no participant survives war unscathed - inner wounds may not be so visible, but can easily be as destructive. We all need to be aware of his profound message.

        Joe Porazzo (website)
From his website: Joe Porrazzo is a former career U.S. Air Force officer and currently works for the Department of Defense. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University and a master’s degree from Central Michigan University. He also taught Aerospace Science as an Air Force ROTC Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire. He was born and raised in Lynn and Peabody Massachusetts, and now lives in Southern Arizona with his wife, Diane, and three children, Joe Jr., Alex, and Maria. "Solemnly Swear", a mystery thriller, is his first novel.

        2 p.m. - 3 p.m.

        Ralph Kiesling (aka Grampa Ralph)
Ralph Kiesling is the author of "Flight of the Prairie Falcon" (science fiction), "Reflections" (poetry), and two children's books, "Santa's New Boots" and "How Santa Knows." He is a full-time resident of Tucson (Oro Valley), formerly of Chicago and retired from the Xerox Corp, where he worked as a Systems Analyst on their Ethernet systems. He also served in the Navy during WWII and later in the Merchant Marine. He is married (56, almost 57 years), has 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

        Jim Duzak (website)
Divorce lawyer, divorce mediator, and former dating service owner Jim Duzak has been called "The Attorney at Love". His book, "Mid-Life Divorce and the Rebirth of Commitment" (Cold Tree Press, 2007) was written for "people who have been married long enough to have lost their illusions but not necessarily their hope"; people who are on the fence about whether to stay in a marriage that meets some, but not all, of their needs. Duzak urges his readers to first commit to living an "authentic life", and then to decide whether such a life is possible within their existing marriage. If it is, he offers dozens of practical suggestions that will make any marriage significantly better. If the reader's marriage is truly hopeless, Duzak takes him or her step-by-step through the divorce process, starting with how to break the news to one's spouse and continuing all the way to the challenges of post-divorce dating. Excerpts from all 17 of the chapters of "Mid-Life Divorce..." can be found on Duzak's website.

        Gail Jandrey
"A Garden of Aloes" is the debut novel of Gayle Davies Jandrey, though at age 60, she is decades older than the average debutante novelist. Still, her life experience, including 28 years teaching public high school, have enabled her to give each character a life and depth of her own and propel the reader into the very real world of women displaced by abuse to the ragged margins of society.
