EVENTS: Grindhouse Redux! Skeletons & Exorcisms

        BY: MIDNITE MOVIE MAMACITA

Bookmans Underground presents MMM's Grindhouse double feature at Chandler Cinemas, Sept 28, featuring The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra and The House of Insane Women.

Local B-Movie hostess the Midnite Movie Mamacita with Bookmans Underground, iCanSmellYourBrains.com and Ban 1 Productions will present a Grindhouse Double Feature, Fri, Sept 28 and Sat, Sept 29. The first film screens at 9 p.m. and the second screens at 11 p.m. at Chandler Cinemas, 2140 N. Arizona Ave, Chandler, AZ 85224 (in the rear of the Target Shopping Center) at the NW corner of Arizona Ave and Warner. Admission is $6 for both films (CASH ONLY, no discount given for single film admission, no ATM onsite).

In September we step outside the '70s for the first feature and in to the early 2000s (such a long time ago). “The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra” (2001) is Larry Blamire’s black and white ode to '50s monster movies. Filmed in “Skeletorama” in Bronson Canyon (site of other monster favorites “Attack of the Crab Monsters” and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”) in ten and a half days, it is a riot from start to finish with fabulous dialogue and acting from the stellar cast. Dr. Paul Armstrong (Blamire) and his wife are embroiled in a campy catastrophic tale, involving a meteor, a mind-controlling skeleton, aliens, and of course a mutant. Fun for the whole family, the film is a re-creation of your favorite monster movies, but with an original twist. You won’t be able to stop yourself from quoting the film. “I sleep now” and “I HAVE RISEN” will become part of your repertoire after watching this modern cult classic!

After a brief intermission where attendees can replenish their snack supplies at the tasty concession stand, the B-movie madness kicks right back in with the women-in-an-asylum feature “The House of Insane Women” (1971). This obscure Spanish sexploitation flick centers on Dr. Alba, who arrives at a 19th century women’s asylum where the conditions are atrocious and the patients have a wide variety of ailments. Dr. Alba becomes fascinated with Tania, a patient that he experiments on with hypnosis to reveal the cause of her madness. Throw in some gratuitous nudity from the lusty female patients and you have a bizarre cuckoo’s nest of a film. Come on in, but beware…. "Inside here, everyone's crazy! And we'll end up catching their looniness!"

The Midnite Movie Mamacita and friends invite you to join them at “Reels of Fury”. Cult Classics screened every Friday, Saturday (some Sundays) at Chandler Cinemas. Showcasing film favorites on the big screen, in 35mm the way they were meant to be seen! Giveaways and theatrics are part of the fun!  For more information please visit www.midnitemoviemamacita.com.
