This Friday! - Bookmans Underground and Midnite Movie Mamacita present an evening with famed cult film director Ted V. Mikels, followed by a screening of "The Corpse Grinder" and "The Doll Squad."
Local B-movie hostess the Midnite Movie Mamacita, in conjunction with Come As You Are Entertainment, presents this exclusive screening as part of "Attack of the Summer Movies" at Chandler Cinemas. On Fri, July 13, Bookmans and the Midnite Movie Mamacita present an evening with famed cult film director Ted V. Mikels. He will be live, in person, for a Q & A, and also selling and signing rare, out of print memorabilia. Joining him will be the star of many of his films - and internationally renowned dancer - Shanti. In his honor, we will be screening two of his finest, "The Corpse Grinders" (1972) and "The Doll Squad" (1973), in all their 35mm glory.
Ted V. Mikels has been making movies for over 50 years, all personally financed and with limited commercial success, but plentiful cult triumphs. Known for his handlebar mustache and his boar's tooth necklace, he is as charming as he is driven to make films. Still filming currently, he is taking a break to join the Midnite Movie Mamacita and friends here in Phoenix for a Q & A, followed by an exclusive screening of two of his screen gems in 35mm. "The Corpse Grinders" tells the grisly tale of the Lotus Cat Food Company and their unscrupulous dealings in the production of their "killer" cat food. This low-budget horror is a delightfully gory and eccentric piece. This will be followed by femme-powered action/adventure "The Doll Squad". Tura Satana and Francine York are femme fatales, an elite squad of mercenaries out to stop the diabolical Eamon O'Reilly (Michael Ansara) from his evil plot to take over the world! Booted, buckled and deadly, "The Doll Squad" is a joyous romp and supposedly the original inspiration for "Charlie's Angels."
Mikels will have exclusive original one-sheets, DVDs, photos, etc., available for sale (CASH ONLY). Each patron will receive a "Certificate of Assurance" to sign and turn in at the screening, to exonerate the theater in case of "coronary, insanity or death suffered during the screening." These certificates will be an exact replicas of what was given out at the original release of "The Corpse Grinders" in 1972, and a nurse will also be on hand in case anyone has adverse reactions to the screening! The event begins at 8 p.m. and admission is $8 (CASH ONLY).
