EVENTS: The Terror of Godzilla and Flesh Gordon

        BY: MIDNITE MOVIE MAMACITA

Grindhouse Redux explodes with two earth-shattering 70s science fiction classics! Bookmans Underground presents MMM's Grindhouse double feature at Chandler Cinemas.

Local B-Movie hostess the Midnite Movie Mamacita, with Bookmans Underground, iCanSmellYourBrains.com and Ban 1 Productions, will present a Grindhouse Double Feature, Fri., August 31, and the last Friday of the month thereafter. The first film screens at 9 p.m. and the second screens at 11 p.m. at Chandler Cinemas, 2140 N. Arizona Ave , Chandler, AZ 85224 (in the rear of the Target Shopping Center) at the NW corner of Arizona Ave. and Warner. Admission is $6 for both films (cash only, no discount given for single film admission, no ATM onsite).

This month's cinematic smorgasbord consists of two 70s science fiction gems. "The Terror of Godzilla" (1975) is the 15th film in the series and the last of the Godzilla series to be directed in the original Showa period. Aliens whose home planet is dying need new digs and decide that earth would make the perfect replacement. They boast a monstrous robot "Mechagodzilla," which they plan on using to defeat Godzilla and the citizens of Japan (and earth). Throw in "Titanosaurus," another diabolical giant robot, and you have ménage trios of Japanese killing machines. Only Godzilla is on earth's side and is he a match for these two mechanical monsters? The last Godzilla film directed by Ishir? Honda (who also directed the cult classic "Matango") this action-adventure is sure to delight!

After a brief intermission, where attendees can replenish their snack supplies at the tasty concession stand, the b-movie madness kicks right back in with sexploitation classic "Flesh Gordon" (1974). A campy remake of "Flash Gordon," this titillating flick is campy and an undisputed adult classic. Stop animation, groovy special effects, and lots of…flesh. It's a non-stop intergalactic adventure. The evil Emperor Wang of the Planet Porno is aiming his "Sex Ray" at earth, transforming the planet into a mass of sexual hysteria. It's up to Flesh and his sidekicks, his girlfriend Dale Ardor and Dr. Flexi Jerkoff, to find the source of the Sex Ray and stop its perilous attacks. This film rounds out our night of attack-on-planet-earth features, presented in 35mm for your pleasure!

The Midnite Movie Mamacita is bringing b-movies to Phoenix! She presents two monthly B-Movie nights to celebrate these forgotten gems. The second Friday of every month downtown at the Paper Heart Arts Venue (750 NW Grand Ave, Phx, 85007) brings "Revenge of the B-Movie Babes," a single explosion of exploitation madness that features a b-movie and a band for only a $5 donation, plus hi-jinks and fun from the B-Movie Mistress and co-host Slade the Slayer. A portion of the proceeds benefit a local animal charity. And now with "Grindhouse Redux," a monthly grindhouse double-feature tribute, showcasing original 35mm prints of these celluloid treasures on the last Friday of every month at Chandler Cinemas (2140 N. Arizona Ave, Chandler, 85224). In conjunction with local exploitation web gurus iCanSmellYourBrains.com, only a $6 admission for two vintage films and b-movie madness in the comfort of the suburbs!
