NEWS: Only One Month Left in the Bookmans' Reading Challenge!

        BY: JACOB H

Reading is awesome. Schoolkids and teachers and librarians are awesome. Why, you ask? During the first two months of the Bookmans' Reading Challenge, students from 35 participating elementary schools in Tucson and Mesa have read just under 160,000 books.

One hundred and sixty thousand books. Isn't that amazing? Every single person who has heard the total so far has responded with a very loud, "Wow!" And it really is a wow-inducing number; a number that should make the students, teacher, librarians and parents taking part feel very proud.

A few schools have reason to be especially proud of March's numbers:

Rio Vista Elementary School in Tucson read over 9,000 books for an average of 16 books read per student in March. So far, they've read over 25,000 books. They rock! Rio Vista also had the top reading class last month. Mr. Dicus' 2nd grade class averaged 66 books read per student. Awesome job! Mr. Dicus' class wins a trip to Bookmans!

Webster Elementary in Mesa read almost 10,000 books for an average of 11 books read per student in March. The top reading class in Mesa also came from Webster. Ms. Kowalsyk's 3rd grade class averaged 65 books read per student, winning them a trip to Bookmans! After the first two months, Webster is tied with Highland Elementary for the lead in Mesa. The excitement is building!

Stay tuned for the Reading Challenge wrap-up. Just one month to go until two elementary schools win $5,000 each! 200,000 books - here we come!
