The Speedway store celebrates its fourth annual Moustache Day on Sun, Feb 24, and it's exactly what you think - grow, glue, or Sharpie, this is the day to rock a fringe on your upper lip. You still won't be as cool as Burt Reynolds, but you can try!
On Sunday, Feb. 24, BOOKMANS SPEEDWAY will be honoring the inherent cool of the 'stache for the fourth year in a row. Moustache Day has become an all-day tradition of face fuzz at its finest, so join the staff of Speedway by sporting a moustache as you shop. Speedway Books supervisor Marshall H recalls the origins of Moustache Day:
About six years ago a coworker and I decided that it would be the funniest thing in the world if our Bookmans became the store in town where all the guys had moustaches. Something we could be known for around town. A little extra notoriety for Bookmans. We would have the old school Grant location, the smaller Ina store, and the creepy one on the East side where all the guys had moustaches. Alas, we couldn't get anyone else go grow one. Two guys with moustaches isn't funny.
Fast forward to three years ago where Paul T and I are shooting the poop in the supervisor's office. We are discussing the decline of ironic t-shirts. We decide there should be a new ironic statement one can make without any money and a lot of free time. We looked at each other and said simultaneously "sideburns" and "coaches shorts." Of course half way between coaches shorts and sideburns lay moustaches. I told Paul about my previous plan for Moustache-mans and how it failed. We suggested a day where we all would have moustaches. It sounded like the perfect compromise.
That first year Moustache Day was scheduled for late February and the date just sort of stuck. Colin P and Rhys F can grow pretty sweet 'staches but Kevin H-P could be a sleeper. All degrees of face whisker are encouraged, from moustache fingers to Groucho greasepainters. In fact often the most busted-looking soup strainer is a fan favorite.
Sunday, Feb. 24, all day! Start growing now.
