EVENTS: 11th Annual Northern Arizona Book Festival

        BY: NORTHERN ARIZONA BOOK FESTIVAL

Bookmans is a primary sponsor of Flagstaff's literary event of the year, April 25-26, 2008. This year's featured writers include Dorothy Allison, Sean Carswell, Christine Granados, Greg Pape, and Tim Seibles.

Once again the Northern Arizona Book Festival will bring dozens of award winning and highly acclaimed authors to Flagstaff, Arizona for a weekend of readings, book signings, and panel discussions at the historic Orpheum Theater on 15 W. Aspen St., Flagstaff, Arizona.

Among this year’s featured writers are Dorothy Allison (author of Bastard Out of Carolina), Sean Carswell (author of Glue and Ink Rebellion), Christine Granados (author of Brides and Sinners in El Chucho), Greg Pape (author of American Flamingos), and Tim Seibles (author of Buffalo Head Solos).

When we confirmed Tim Seibles as part of our line-up, he said, "That festival is probably among the top three coolest literary scenes in the world. Only a lunatic wouldn't be available for such a time."

This year we also continue our tradition of promoting the value of literacy by bringing our authors into high schools for readings and literary discussions in Flagstaff, Williams, and Tuba City.

In the week preceding the Book Festival, there will also be readings and book signings throughout the city, including renowned Natural History writer, Gary Nabhan.

Enjoy what has been called the “premier cultural event of the Northland” as well as the “single greatest reason to live in Flagstaff!”

About the Northern Arizona Book Festival:
The purpose of the Northern Arizona Book Festival is to promote the union of literacy and the fine art of literature in a meaningful and relevant way to the people of Northern Arizona and the greater Southwest.

The Northern Arizona Book Festival was founded in 1998 by the Literacy Volunteers of Coconino County as a direct and tangible link between basic literacy efforts and ambitious literary endeavors.

That year a diverse group of acclaimed authors came to Flagstaff for a weekend of readings, workshops, panel discussions, and other literary events. This wildly successful downtown event was to become an instant hit among townsfolk and travelers alike.

What began as a moment of love and pure vision among local lovers of books evolved into a large-scale event of international regard within the lively culture of Contemporary Literature.

The Northern Arizona Book Festival is a Non-profit organization and is made possible by the generous support of the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Arizona Humanities Council, Bookmans, the City of Flagstaff, Flagstaff Cultural Partners, Northern Arizona University, and the donations of local businesses and individuals.
