        EVENTS: Summer Slam Double Header!

        BY: AZ DERBY DAMES

Saturday, July 12th at Castle Sports Club: Bombshells vs. Brutal Beauties and Schoolyard Scrappers vs. Runaway Brides. Arizona Derby Dames' July 12th double-header bouts are the final games of the regular season with final playoffs ranking being decided.

Sure to be at capacity for these important games, The Castle Sports Club hosts the number one ranked Brutal Beauties against the number five ranked Bombshells. The second bout could be the event that clinches second place for the teams that each have only one loss this season: The Schoolyard Scrappers and The Runaway Brides.

Whichever team wins the Scrappers/Brides (each 2:1 going into this bout) match up will have the second place ranking for 2008 season, unless The Brutal Beauties are defeated by The Bombshells. In that case there will be a two-way tie for first place between The Beauties and the winner of the Scrappers and Brides bout, which will also then have a 3 wins and 1 loss record. Ranking for first will then be decided by season to date point spreads. If The Bombshells are able to defeat The Brutal Beauties, their record will be tied with The Coffin Draggers at 1 win and 3 losses, meaning the ranking for fourth between those teams also will be decided by to date point spreads. Teams are fighting for their placement in the September play-offs double header this time around.

Watch for newly graduated fresh meat skaters who have been placed on teams and will be bouting as Arizona Derby Dames for their first time on July 12th. The Brutal Beauties' Ratchet will take the rink against her former teammate from another roller derby league, Nacho Girlfriend of The Bombshells. Keep an eye on double-duty Abby Damned of the Runaway Brides, who is both a jammer and blocker. Also, watch for new Schoolyard Scrapper Mizz Nashty to increase the Scrappers jamming effectiveness. All four teams come into this event with these skaters and more; seventeen new skaters have been placed on Arizona Derby Dames teams. Look for many new faces out on the rink this time around.

Arizona Derby Dames merchandise featuring logos and images of your favorite teams and skaters will be on sale. Raffles will be held for derby goodie bags, which include tickets to Arizona Derby Dames' next bout on August 23rd. Also, visit the various vendors set up in the lobby for fun accessories.

The Castle Sports Club is located at 11420 North 19th Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85029 (602-331-2582). Doors will open at 7 p.m. with the bouts starting at 8 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased for $8 at the following locations: Bookmans, Cage World, My Ruka's Garage, Eastside Records, Curiouser & Curiouser and the Castle Sports Club. $8 general admission tickets and a limited number of $15 reserved front row seats are available at brownpapertickets.com. Tickets will be $10 at the door the night of the bout. Contact myspace.com/azderbydames for special rates for groups of 10 or more. Kids 12 & under are admitted free. After the game, follow the Dames to their official party venue, Hazelwood's First Place Bar and Grill, on Indian School, just east of 36th Street.

Also, upcoming in August, we'll see two exhibition bouts for the Arizona Derby Dames' travel team, The Lady Lux, made up of the best skaters from their five teams. First up, a match-up with the Silicon Valley Roller Girls on August 1st in Las Vegas. Then back at The Castle Sports Club, on August 23rd, The 2008 Lady Lux will be showcasing their 2008 team in an exhibition bout. You won't want to miss this event, which will be as exciting as the Dame's sold out exhibition bouts in January 2008.
