Old Childhood Computer Games

Do you ever wonder what happened to classic computer games? Back in the day my friends and I would have a blast playing them and when my parents would buy me a new one I was over the moon about it. Unfortunately, it seems that not too many people play computer games anymore. Here’s a flashback to some of the games I used to love from the mid-1990’s to early 2000’s.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again was just released in theaters a few weeks ago. I saw it (because why wouldn’t I?) and I have to say, to my surprise, I was bawling for a good portion of it. The storyline and the songs really just moved me. The two films feature some of the best soundtracks that I’ve heard to date. Plus, I’m just a huge sucker for musicals. For me, Mamma Mia stands above all else. Here’s my list of the top songs from the newly released sequel. In case you haven’t seen it already, spoilers ahead!

Best Studio Ghibli Films

Posted in Reel Chat on 21 May by Suyin Boles

Studio Ghibli movies are unlike any other movies I’ve ever experienced before. They evoke a different sense of feeling for me than watching really any other film, and it may be because Studio Ghibli specialized in anime films. Outside of this studio, I have not found any type of anime that is even comparable to it. Studio Ghibli movies go beyond the surface level topics and they create unique, memorable characters that enchant viewers right from the jump. Studio Ghibli films mix fantasy and reality creating worlds that never before existed. If you haven’t experienced one of these films before, let me tell you why you should give them a try and which ones I recommend you start with.

As summer approaches, you may be finding yourself with more free time on your hands. Yes, you can waste away the days on your smartphone scrolling through social media or mindlessly searching the web, but does that actually sound appealing? No, but most of us do it anyway, simply out of habit. Instead of having a summer not worth remembering, why not learn a new skill that you can carry with you and make it unforgettable? Nintendo Switch Review

Posted in Play: A Gamer's Blog on 10 Apr by Suyin Boles

The Nintendo Switch has been out for a little over a year now, and I must say it is one of the most clever consoles Nintendo has come out with. Like, ever. IMHO, the Wii and Wii U were a bit of a flop. Although owning a Wii myself, it is frustrating sometimes using the motion sensor in the controller to aim directly at the sensor bar. You’re pointing the controller directly at the Wii yet nothing is happening. I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE GAME. Enter the Nintendo Switch and my new endless gaming smile. Nintendo Switch console with controller in red and blue

Nostalgic Books From My Childhood

Posted in Bookie Blog on 07 Mar by Suyin Boles

There are books from my childhood that still give me a warm feeling inside when I think about them. I remember being so excited about reading them again and again. They weren’t complex really at all, they were simple books, but there was something about these books that helped me discover a love of reading. Back then I wasn’t a huge fan of reading mainly because it seemed more like a task. If anyone remembers AR (Accelerated Reading) then you’ll know that you had to read a certain amount of books based on your reading skill level and take tests to earn points. That seemed like work to me. However, the books I’m about to get all nostalgic on gave me genuine joy. Considering this was 15+ years ago, they clearly made an impression on me. Here’s my list of the top children’s books from the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.

How I Met Your Mother Steals My Heart – Until the Last Episode

Posted in Merchandise, Reel Chat on 22 Feb by Suyin Boles

How I Met Your Mother, or HIMYM for short, has been my all-time favorite show to watch since it aired. I’ve re-watched it at least 10 times. To me, this show is perfect. It’s comedic, light-hearted, and you don’t necessarily have to watch the episodes in order to know what’s going on. It’s the best sitcom for when you just need a good laugh and want to unwind. It was so easy to emotionally attach yourself to the characters because their lives were relatable. It’s that connection with the show that makes the last episode hard to watch – even 4 years later.

Romcoms That Will Never Get Old

Posted in In Our Stores, Reel Chat, Uncategorized on 12 Feb by Suyin Boles

It’s no secret that romcoms (romantic comedies) can be hit-or-miss. Some lack in the comedy department, have an unoriginal or weak storyline, or are a bit too raunchy. Some romcoms, for whatever reason, are just not that memorable. The truth is, it’s hard to find a type of humor that works for everyone, a feat made more difficult when throwing romance into the mix. BUT, when we do find a movie that hits all the right notes, we won’t soon forget it. These two movies are some of the most unforgettable romcoms in my book.

The Greatest Showman

Posted in Musical Notes, Reel Chat on 03 Feb by Suyin Boles

Loosely based on the life of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman delivers something truly special to the big screen. Between the choreography, storyline, and music from the composers (Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of La La Land), it’s no wonder that people are flooding into theaters to see this masterful movie. Here’s why I think you should see it too, even if you’re not a lover of spectacle.

Lady Gaga: Top 3 Music Videos

Posted in Merchandise, Musical Notes on 26 Dec by Suyin Boles

Lady Gaga is one of those artists who always has people talking. She’s shown up in the media for her crazy costumes, insane music videos, and much more. It seems that Mother Monster herself has seemingly been keeping low on the radar. And when I say low, I mean not on the news every 5 minutes for her outrageous stunts but is still so famous that she performed at last year’s Super Bowl.
