Year of the Tiger
Here at Bookmans Phoenix, we were too excited to wait until the actual start of the Chinese New Year (February 14th) so we decided to celebrate early this year with a fun kids' craft! Since 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, customers from toddlers to teenagers and their parents created their very own ferocious tiger masks. We also peeked into our future with yummy fortune cookies and learned about which animal we were, based on the 12-animal Chinese Zodiac Calendar. Together, we made up one silly zoo full of Chinese New Year fun! Fabulous pictures from our Chinese New Year celebration are here on our Flikr page.

Legend spoke of the wild beast Nien (also the word for "year" in Mandarin) that appeared at the end of each year, attacking and killing villagers. Loud noises and bright lights were used to scare the beast away, and thus, Chinese New Year celebrations were born.
This weekend, Bookmans Mesa celebrated the beginning of the Chinese New Year with an awesome in-store bash. To celebrate such a festive holiday, one must look the part. We were joined by Dawn from "Shys Designs," whose extraordinary face painting talents at face painting transformed all of our faces into tigers of all colors and stripes.
