The Konamis: The Droid Diversion

There are two kinds of trade credit keepers: the spenders and the hoarders. I’m a bit of both. When I get small amounts of trade credit, say under $15 or $20, I use it as coffee money in our cafe. If I sell something for a lot of trade, I stash it in my lockbox and hold out for a big purchase. This is where the music and electronics departments tend to come in.

You Twitter folks are some clue savvy, smart cookies! Another successful Bookmans Treasure Hunt: The Search for Local Booty Phoenix Edition has come to an end. A huge round of applause for the Local First Arizona business that hid the prize package including tickets to the amazing Harkins Theaters! You used your noggin and the clues to find the local treasure, we hope you were as excited about it as we are. Each prize package was worth over $50.

Hello beautiful people! One of the coolest parts about Bookmans is the amazing authors we meet and promoting the books they write! In our Bookmans Speedway April Author Fair we hosted an Peggy Larson and William Ascarza, two local Authors who teamed up to write awesome books about the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, the Tucson Mountains and the wonderful desert we live in. Also Sid Brodkin attended the fair with his book Boro Park, Vegas, and All the In Betweens. From the ghetto of Boro Park, Brooklyn in the 1920s to the bright lights of Las Vegas in the 1950s, Harry "Bull" Farber's fascinating journey will sound familiar to many of the Greatest Generation.

We eat, breathe and sleep recycling. We do it all day, every day. Even at home we collect items to bring into the store for trade. We know recycling like the back of our hand but we can’t recycle everything. We’ve collected leftover children's books with the bent covers, ripped pages or coloring on the inside and turned them into something spectacular! Since March was our annual Arts and Crafts month, we decided to get the entire family involved at Bookmans Phoenix in helping us rip the pages of these forgotten books and turn them into wallets!

One might ask why we celebrate the birth of someone who never ages but we ask, why wouldn’t we? Chuck-mas is that glorious time of year that we put our differences aside and rejoice in the fact that we share the same planet with Chuck Norris. Our employees are well versed in Chuck Norris facts and can spit out at least five movie titles he’s been in if you’re in the market for one of his films.

Bookmans Flagstaff is in our third month of ongoing events and we've been having a righteous good time! We have storytime for toddlers and tots at 10 a.m. every Friday. So far we’ve had lots of fun and covered topics like dinosaurs, babies, barnyard animals, getting scared, ABCs, 123s, colors and a lot more. We've also been hosting Chuck Cheesman's famous kids' show "Dancing With No Shoes On" at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of each month in our cafe and he's always playing to a packed house. The Konamis: Yeti Get Ready

I love laughing, as I think we all do. I love reading the Sunday comics, watching cartoons, catching every new comedy movie that comes out, renting classic funny films, watching an old favorite comedian or discovering a new one and hearing a funny joke. Life is serious enough with work, school, family, friends and the world’s problems so I take every opportunity I get to giggle. Anytime someone asks me, “What kind of movie should we watch?”, my answer will always be “A funny one!” Some of my favorite movies of all time are comedies that can make me laugh over and over again. They are like baby blankets or old stuffies from childhood. They whisk me away from real life drama and into a light-hearted mood with a new perspective on things and if anything else, just make me smile.

The Konamis: Mothman

We had the privilege of partnering with the Phoenix Public Library to host the first annual Storybook Express at the visually stunning Burton Barr Library in Downtown Phoenix. Over 1500 children and their families attended this first time event. All Aboard the Storybook Express! An afternoon filled with all things celebrating families and literacy. With our partners at the Burton Barr Library we spent a Saturday afternoon filled with activities for everyone to share. From story time, pin-wheel crafts and face painting to balloons, free photos at the Bookmans Photo Booth and a puppet show, the day was packed with something for everyone.
