The Konamis: Lovers of Loving Love

With Maddie Miller’s busy schedule, we were lucky she found time to grace Bookmans Phoenix with a show. This multi talented performer partakes in a little slice of all of the arts and can be found all over the place whether it's bringing out the laughs with her Sic Sense comedy troupe, sharing a little randomness with the world doing improv at the Dearing School of Acting, giving YouTube something talk about with her amazing acoustic videos or just running all over town networking.

Thanks to our very first Star Wars Night, Bookmans Phoenix welcomed close to 400 people help to raise awareness for the American Diabetes Association. Everyone came out to see the famous Star Wars costume clubs that travel all over the valley promoting great causes and raising funds for charity. We welcomed members of the Mandalorian Mercs, the Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion. There were Mandos, Stormtroopers, Princess Leas, Jedi, Ewoks and Anikans spread out through every nook and cranny of the store. Darth Vader perused our cooking section and a cluster of Mandos invaded the video game department!

Bookmans Mesa celebrated Movie Madness Month in community style. We partnered with our friends at The Royale Cinema with a screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The best part is that all proceeds directly benefit Kids Need to Read. The screening sold out one hour before the film even started, but we didn’t turn anyone away. All were invited to participate in our pre-show events.

“What a super incredible day for Kids Need to Read and the families who packed the house! It was great to watch the kids and 'big' kids smiling and having fun. Thanks to all who came to support KNTR, as well as to Bookmans and The Royale Cinema! The funds raised will help Kids Need to Read to provide reading resources and inspiration to disadvantaged kids,” said Denise Gary, Executive Director of Kids Need to Read.

The Konamis: Smoke Out

Our annual Dog Days of Summer month is always a blast because we get to celebrate pets of all shapes, sizes and colors with unique events like our Creature Carnival: An Animal Rescue Awareness Fair. The afternoon affair invited the public out of the sweltering summer heat and into an educational carnival-themed event with some of our favorite local rescue shelters including Brambley Hedge Rabbit Rescue, Any Rat Rescue and Arizona Animal Welfare League. We are always proud to partner with such powerfully committed organizations because like them, we always strive to help our critter friends. All the stores already allow pets on leashes and gladly have treats for cats and canines, but we wanted to share the love with our tiny animal friends, whose voices sometimes gets lost in the barks and meows.

Oh, the Places You'll Go! One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish! The Cat in the Hat came by Bookmans Speedway to read some of his favorite stories from Dr. Seuss! Green Eggs and Ham, Mr. Brown can Moo! Can you? Everyday, from here to there, funny things are everywhere! What a great story time!
