The Konamis: King Phineas’ Super Punch Out

As sponsors of the Arizona Derby Dames we were thrilled to have them in store to help our Bookmans kids get crafty. The Dames showed us how to choose derby names and helped the kids decorate their roller derby capes so they could skate in style.

Education should be everyone's priority and although it seems as though some have pushed it to the back burner, Bookmans strives to do our part in support of education in Arizona. With our Project: Educate, Kids Club, 1317 and Read 10 programs, we hope to give students and teachers easier access to materials, resources and just plain old Bookmans fun.

For the past few years we partnered with a national non-profit that helped us bring music lessons into our instrument section. Thanks to a Bookmans sponsorship, Guitars in the Classroom provides free guitar lessons to Valley educators in the hopes that they will bring music into their classrooms. After the past 16 weeks of Saturday morning classes, we awarded a special group of teachers a celebratory graduation.

The Konamis: Battle Theme

From the moment we entered the gates, it was obvious that a lot of love, sweat and work went into the big move for the 2012 Blues Blast Festival. The all-volunteer organization The Phoenix Blues Society provides support for local and national music, Blues culture, heritage and education. They put on a rocking good time at the new Blues Blast venue, Margaret T. Hance Park in the middle of Downtown Phoenix. When we ask Phoenix Blues Society President Kyle Deibler about the move he says, "The move to Margaret T. Hance Park proved to be a good decision by our Board of Directors. The event had a distinctly urban festival vibe going on that everyone seemed to appreciate."

Downtown Phoenix created a unique backdrop for this year's festival.

The Konamis: Hail to the King

When we first mentioned Legend by Marie Lu in our social media feeds, we had to represent its dystopian goodness succinctly. We said, "If Katniss and Gale were Romeo and Juliet: Legend by Lu." We got that slightly wrong. Lu does love the Hunger Games (so do we) so the feel fits, but it's Les Miserables not Romeo and Juliet that inspired the relationship between Legend's power couple. Whatever the case, we highly recommend buying your teen, your library, yourself this first book of a trilogy.
