_Cal: Film1

Flagstaff's community theatre, Theatrikos Theatre Company, is currently shooting an independent, local film that is getting the whole community involved, and Bookmans will be one setting for a key scene in the film. Production started just a few weeks ago, and, so far, they’ve shot scenes at Flagstaff Floral, The Orpheum and Mia's Bar. The script calls for a scene to be shot in a bookstore - the main character is an author and is doing a book signing, and Bookmans was a natural choice for the scene!

The film, titled “Unconscious,” is a comedy about a wanna-be writer who sustains a head injury and blacks-out for months of his life. After he wakes up he learns that during that forgotten time he wrote a best-selling novel. The scene that will be filmed at Bookmans is of him coming to full consciousness with a line of people waiting to get their copies of his book signed, and he doesn't remember writing it!

Stephen Joel Root, writer and director of “Unconscious,” was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2008 for the Southwest region for his work in a segment called "Winds of Change." Along with running Flag Film Productions, Stephen also works for KPNX, Phoenix's NBC affiliate, in their Flagstaff bureau as a multi-media journalist shooting, editing, and writing stories about Northern Arizona for the evening news.

Bookmans is delighted to help support Stephen and Theatrikos in their efforts to make a memorable independent film!
