Can't Stop the Serenity 2009 poster

Bookmans is once again a very proud sponsor of this year's Arizona Can't Stop the Serenity film screenings at the Loft Cinema in Tucson on Thursday, September 17th, at 6:30 p.m., and at MADCAP Theaters in Tempe on Saturday, September 19th, at 12:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.This year's screenings will be double headers of Joss Whedon's 2005 film Serenity and his internet smash Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, and Nathan "Captain Tightpants" Fillion.

The Arizona Browncoats promise a great time with raffles, CSTS merchandise, and of course the ever-popular costume contest. The Tucson screenings will also feature a very special, one time only appearance by Tucson's Vampire Bunny Slayers shadowcast, performing along with Dr. Horrible.

Tickets for the Tucson screening are $8 and can be purchased at the Loft Cinema box office or over the phone by calling (520) 795-0844. Tickets for Tempe are $10 and will be available for purchase online through the MADCAP Theaters website or at the door.

Now in its fourth year, Can't Stop the Serenity is a fan-organized global fundraiser for Equality Now, an international organization dedicated to protecting women's rights around the world, as well as local women's charities. The "Browncoats" - self-described fans of Firefly and Serenity - started the screenings in honor of Whedon's birthday and to celebrate the beloved sci-fi Western, all in the name of a cause close to Whedon's heart.

The Arizona Browncoats have been at the forefront of Can't Stop the Serenity since the event's inception in 2006, raising over $30,000 for Equality Now and local women's charities like the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona (WFSA), Fresh Start Women's Foundation (Fresh Start), and Growth Improvement for Female Teens (GIFT). As a result of their growing participation in charitable causes, the group formed Arizona Browncoats, Inc., establishing them as a registered non-profit dedicated to promoting unity and equality. The group holds "shindigs" on the first Saturday of every month at 7 p.m. at Bookmans Phoenix. All gatherings are free and open to the public.
