• Chess arts and crafts.
• Face-painting by Silly Tassie.
• A tasty themed treat for participants.

A firm believer in the power of chess, President Gerald Ford declared the first National Chess Day in 1976 to "enhance awareness and encourage students and adults to engage in a game known to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills." This marks the fourth year that 9 Queens and Bookmans partnered to promote chess literacy teaching hundreds of Tucsonans to play the game of strategy.

Chess fans can continue lessons at the Bookmans Ina where we host a free family chess night on the third Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information please email jhoffman [at] 9queens [dot] org or visit the 9 Queens website.
