Must resist the urge. "You spin me right 'round, baby right 'round like a record, baby right 'round, 'round, 'round." Now that we've gotten that out of our system we can tell you where you should be this weekend. The Hotel Congress hosts its annual Record Fair and Music Gear Expo, a free all-day event starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 1. If you are like us, your memories of purchasing your own albums or going through your parents collection still fill you with that sense of exploration, satisfaction and independence (music collecting is one of our first areas of total control). Fortunately, the timeless classics are still floating around either inspiring DJs to sample them at clubs or expanding already massive collections. We don't want to rush you, but the first 500 attendees to the Bookmans booth with receive a specially designed tote to hold that massively sized music format.

This fair isn't just for record lovers this year. It also incoporates music gear including guitars, amps, vintage gear and oddball instruments. What's a music expo without live music? Guest DJs will spin thourought the day and there will be a meet and greet with fuzz box afficionado and film maker Clif Taylor. Taylor's fuzz box lecture begins at 2 p.m. and screen his film at 3 p.m. What is a fuzz box? A fuzz box is a tool musicians use to distort the sound of their instruments. The result is the alteration of the audio signal until it's square, morphing it into a complex sound by way of a frequency amplifier. Has your mind been blown yet?
