Bookmans News

For over five years NERDVANA has been providing the East Valley Tribune with all things nerdy. What do we do to celebrate? Partner up with 2nd Friday in Downtown Mesa and throw a party! Whether you want to check out local technology projects, enjoy a great cult film, have fun competing in strategy games or meet and greet local comic-book artistic talent, 2ND Friday's NERDVANACON-themed event has something for you.

As part of the celebration the Bookmans and The Dr. Diabolic Show will bring you a cult-movie screening of "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!". Tickets are free and available at the Café inside of the Mesa Bookmans location. We have partnered up with Monsterland Bar and Grill to show one lucky couple VIP treatment. One lucky winner will receive dinner for two at Monsterland Bar and Grill, two tickets to see Buckaroo Banzai, reserved seating to the screening and a Bookmans gift bag valued at over $75.

To get your VIP treatment, tell us what you've been dying to try (pun intended) from the Monsterland menu. One lucky winner will be chosen at random via Random.org. Winners will be notified by e-mail Wednesday mornings or Wednesday sometime or maybe even Thursday, but you have only until Wednesday morning to comment. Comments are moderated and may take some time to appear. Please do not resubmit your comments -- one is plenty

I'd love to try Monsterland's sasquatch .....or the wickerman appetizer........ooohhhh and the gooey eyeball sounds like a tasty dessert. I might even have to have some Wolfsbane to wash it down. Now, it all just sounds good!

I was planning on taking my husband to see the film on Friday. Buckaroo Bonzai is one of my favorite films (after Six String Samurai) and I think it would be tons of fun! The last time we went to Monsterland it was so crowded we didn't stay to eat, but I did peruse the menu. I've been wanting to try The Mummy. It sounds Yummy.

Myself, I've been dying to feast on Monsterland's gargantuan Bat Wings - but which sauce to choose? Should I go with scaryaki? demon? Or would I only be content with a sauce LITERALLY MADE OF THE FLAMES OF HADES ITSELF.

At any rate, after going full-on Ozzy, I'd have to continue the carnage with the Meat Grinder - a spicy stack of flesh I'd relish devouring - sans veggies, naturally. Of course, a monstrous meal wouldn't be complete without a finishing touch equally sweet and gruesome, so perhaps wolfing down some Dragon Eggs is in order.

Beating the heat with some books and a treat sounds like a howling good time to me!

I have wanted to try the Monsterland menu, so this would be a perfect chance to give it a shot, why not? If this isn't too late anyway!
