Bookman's Blog

We put some holes in our green jeans this year at one of our favorite community events -- GreenFest. This green event is also sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona and Tucson Village Farm. We enjoyed five hours jam packed with local green vendors, music, food, little furries and fun. GreenFest educates consumers and shows how easy going green can be. Heck, we even gave out $5 Bookmans gift certificates to people who rode their bikse to the party.

We hosted a make-your-own recycled instrument table, Girl Scouts showed off solar robots and Forever Green, Tucson Village Farm sold their farm fresh produce, plant starts and recycled art. Arizona Feeds Country Store brought the cutest, and popular, baby furries. Renee's Organic Pizza and Seis Curbside Kitchen sold their delicious treats to keep our tummies full alongside of A Slice of Heaven with her lavender lemonade, frozen prickly pear popsicles by Prickly Pops and cool and creamy ice cream from Isabella's. Bob Oldfather brought antique electric vehicles from his personal collection and Clean Cities provided more modern versions that are on the road today. Mrs. Green's World hosted a radio show on this ever important event. Other businesses and organizations joined us to make it spectacular. Check it out for yourself on our Flickr feed.

Additional vendors rocking this event were:

Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona
GeoInnovation (who graciously supplied us with a solar generator to inflate our giant rooster)
The Habistore
Heifer International
Technicians for Sustainability
Tucson Organic Gardeners
The Solar Store
Tucson Clean & Beautiful
Watershed Management
Tucson Macaroni Kid
Tucson Honey Company
Aravaipa Heirlooms
The Fairfax Companies
KXCI- Community Radio (supplied us with farm-friendly mood music)
Pima County Department of Environmental Quality
Iskashitaa Refugee Harvesting Network
Tucson Electric Power
Spartan Promotional Group

We had countless volunteers who helped pull off this event and we want to thank all the supporters who came out in the name of going green. Maybe Kermit was wrong, maybe it's easy being green. See you next year!
