Banned Books Month is back, baby! That’s right, September is here and with it comes our unapologetic celebration of your right to read written contraband. We couldn’t be more excited! From Looking for Alaska to To Kill a Mockingbird to The Diary of Ann Frank to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, the amount of books that have been challenged or banned in our modern world is astounding. So much so that The American Library Association releases a compiled list of The Top Banned and Challenged Books of the year every September. Many titles you would read at bedtime have been forcibly removed from shelves in schools and libraries. Authors like Dr. Seuss, Bill Martin Jr. and Maurice Sendak have all been banned.
But it’s not enough to just tell you about Banned Books. No, we decided to show you. All month long, Bookmans stores will have an Arrested Reading Display where you can get a closer look at some of the too dangerous to read material. These titles will be completely covered with only a small hint as to what banned book lies beneath. So stop in and check out some of these amazing titles and celebrate your right to read, you rebel reader you.
