It’s Banned Books Week! Every year the American Library Association releases a compiled list of The 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books. These are titles that for whatever reason were forced to be removed from libraries and schools. Sometimes these requests are denied but often they are accepted and beloved books such as To Kill A Mockingbird and The Diary of Anne Frank are the subject of censorship and deemed too dangerous to read… Bookmans is all about celebrating your right to read which is why we spend the whole month of September highlighting the surprising amount of books that have been challenged or banned through the Arrested Reading displays in our stores. To top things off Bookmans Midtown will be hosting not one but THREE in store events during Banned Books Week!
Special Read To Me Story Time with Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. Let the wild Rumpus start!
Stop in and #GetCaughtReadingBannedBooks at Bookmans! We will be making our own Banned Book cover and watching the film adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s classic dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451.
All week long you can take your own Banned Book Selfie in front of our #ArrestedReading Mugshot Photo Booth. Share your fave challenged reading material on social media using the hashtag #ArestedReading.
