Bookmans News

March is National Crafts Month and Youth Art Month and Bookmans is celebrating with a schedule of events and projects for kids and adults alike. Create your own garden fairy, find a new use for bottle caps, imagine a haiku craft, and even learn the Japanese art of origami - this is the month to unleash your inner artist and crafter with a skill or project that's new to you.

Bookmans is proud to be a sponsor of the first annual Tucson Festival of Books at the University of Arizona, March 14-15. Over 300 authors (including Elmore Leonard and J.A. Jance) and exhibitors will converge for a full weekend of readings, signings, and activities in celebration of reading and literacy.

We've finalized our schedule of author appearances for the Bookmans Main Tent and Bookmans Youth Tent at Tucson Festival of Books on the University of Arizona Mall, March 14-15. Join authors Diana Gabaldon, Gail Carson Levine, Richard Peck, Megan McCafferty, Charles de Lint, Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Karen Cushman, Steam Crow, Susan Lowell, Max Cannon, Tom Miller, and more throughout the weekend as we celebrate the love of reading at Tucson's first book festival.

Thanks to Bookmans fans, old and new, who turned out for Tucson's first Festival of Books this past weekend at the University of Arizona. We gave away thousands of tote bags, t-shirts, biodegradable balloons, and brochures and had a fantastic time celebrating books with long-time Bookmans customers, curious out-of-towners, and the authors who were kind enough to sign with us Saturday and Sunday.

Tune in to ABC's Emmy Award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition this Sunday, March 22nd at 8/7c p.m. and witness Ty Pennington and crew's amazing remodel for the Bell family in Tucson. Bookmans was privileged to take part in this very special project, donating more than $3,500 worth of books to fill the shelves of the family's brand new house.

Thanks to the AZ Daily Sun and the town of Flagstaff or voting Bookmans the "Best Book Store" for the 15th year in a row and 17th time overall. We celebrate our 20th anniversary in Flagstaff this year and Bookmans is profoundly grateful for the support and patronage that has made us an integral part of the community.

The numbers are in for the first month of Bookmans' Reading Challenge and this year's competition is set to be our biggest yet! Now in its third year, the Challenge has expanded from Tucson and the Phoenix area to include Flagstaff, which means we're giving away $15,000 - $5,000 to a winning school in each participating market.

Bookmans is once again a sponsor of the Northern Arizona Book Festival, Flagstaff's annual celebration of literacy and the fine art of literature, April 24-26. This year's guests include Diana Gabaldon, Robert Bly, and Alberto Álvaro Ríos, with more to be announced. Bookmans Flagstaff will host a series of special author events leading up to and during the Festival.
