Bookmans News

We love animals - dogs, cats, hamsters, porcupines, it doesn't matter. It's why our four-legged friends are always welcome in our stores (on a leash, please!) and why every July we put a special emphasis on a variety of animal-themed events and organizations. This month's roster includes pet adoptions, craft projects for kids, presentations by the Desert Museum and Wildlife World Zoo, and even pet psychics. Check the Events Calendar for a full listing.

Every quarter, Bookmans highlights the work of an important organization from each of our Arizona markets in our stores and on the web. Learn what you can do to help support the invaluable work of others in your community.

"Send Hunger Packing" at our Phoenix and Mesa locations during the month of July and you could win a $50 Bookmans gift certificate! We're an official drop-off point for the St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance, the world's first food bank.

9 Queens Academy returns to Bookmans Speedway this Sunday, July 12th, 2-4 p.m. Whether you're a novice or a master, this FREE chess workshop is open to women and girls of all ages and all skill levels.

The third annual Tucson International Children's Film Festival returns to the Loft Cinema for nine days of beloved children's movies! The festival, presented by the Glassman Foundation and hosted by the staff of Mrs. Tiggy Winkle's Toys, will take place at the Loft from Saturday, July 25th through Sunday, August 2nd, every morning at 10 a.m. Admission is FREE.

Looking for a bit of culture? Family fun? Want to understand your pet in an entirely new way? We've got a weekend packed with goodness in the stores this weekend - and all events are free!

Jason Calhoon's Cafe Van Go - the enticingly red van you'll find parked in front of Bookmans Grant most mornings and early afternoons - will now be closed Saturdays and Sundays as we all wait for the weather to cool down. Cafe Van Go will still be open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., serving up some of the best espresso and coffee in Tucson. Stopped by to give it a "go" yet? We hear the espresso shots and the Americano are particularly ace.

Bookmans is once again a proud sponsor of Happy Birthday, Tucson!, the city's fourth annual celebration of the Old Pueblo. Throughout the month of August, local businesses and "birthday ambassadors" will be organizing and sponsoring a variety of events around the city. We'll bring our own special flavor to the proceedings with FREE "Made-in-Tucson Movie Madness" screenings at the Loft Cinema.

Bookmans is a proud member of Local First AZ, a non-profit collective of Arizona-owned businesses that works "to strengthen communities and local economies through supporting, maintaining, and celebrating locally owned businesses throughout the state of Arizona." Join us Thursday, July 30th, 5:30-7:30 p.m., for a Local First AZ Mixer at Bookmans Speedway.
