Two of our Bookmans.com readers will will passes to the Arizona Derby Dames' return to the track to fight for position for the 2012 season on Saturday, Jan. 21 at The Arizona Memorial Coliseum. Teams compete for top stats rankings and the chance to move directly into the championship game by ending the season in first place. The Schoolyard Scrappers take to the track for their first game of the season against the Brutal Beauties. Then the Bombshells take on the Runaway Brides. Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum is located at 1826 W. McDowell Rd. in Phoenix.

The hundreds of young people comprising our Kids Club and 1317 programs are all incredible and the brother-sister duo of Paige (age 15) and Bailey (age 12) is no exception. You'll find them out and about doing cool and unique things all over Phoenix. Thanks to their equally incredible mom we got the scoop on what makes these two kids so hip.

A mysterious Scottish village appears for only one day every hundred years though to the villagers each century seems no longer than one night. No one from Brigadoon may ever leave or the enchantment will be broken and the site and all its inhabitants will disappear into the mist forever. Two American tourists lost in the Scottish Highlands stumble upon the village just as a wedding is about to be celebrated and their arrival has serious implications for the village's inhabitants. The Lerner and Lowe score includes the song Almost Like Being in Love. The live stage production of Brigadoon runs through Feb. 11 at The Broadway Palm Dinner Theater in Mesa.

Looking for help with your New Year goals and resolutions? We'll provide free access to hypnosis support today for World Hypnotism Day. World Hypnotism Day was established by the National Guild of Hypnotists to help educate the public about the benefits that the natural process of hypnotism has to offer. Today at every Bookmans location professionals present free events to help you learn more about hypnosis and the benefits it offers people desiring personal change. The presentations last between 45-60 minutes and describe what hypnosis is and is not, dispel myths about hypnosis and offer a chance to experience hypnosis in the form of a brief group demonstration. The presenters are Michael C. DeSchalit, Dr. Edwin Bebee, David Harrod, Sandi Graves, Don Rice and William Regner. They are all members of the National Guild of Hypnotists with over one hundred combined years of experience in the field. The presenters will answer any questions from the audience pertaining to hypnosis and its use.

2011 was another year of hit film, music, book and video game releases. We see them on the shelves and we watch, listen, read and play along with everyone else. At Bookmans Mesa the staff was vocal about their favorites for the past year.
We hope your New Year resolution was to amp up your sense of adventure because it's time for the January Edition of Bookmans Phoenix Treasure Hunt. The search for local business booty is about to begin! In December Noble Beast Natural Market hid the treasure in their royal building on Camelback but where might we have hidden it this month?

Let's celebrate the top 10 semifinalists in the 2012 Bookmans School Challenge. Turn on Kool and the Gang, put your party hats on and celebrate good times for the schools representing the most creative and innovative applicants vying for the grand prize of $15,000 in cash. Overwhelmed and overjoyed by applications from all over Arizona, we narrowed contenders down to 10 schools whose proposals revealed dynamic efforts in and outside of the classroom.

We know folks have made New Year resolutions and are trying to revamp their lives. We have all kinds of resolutions too. Some are for a healthier diet and more exercise. Some are for being more grateful, less angry, less stressed, or spending more time with those we love. A few of us plan to drink less, get our check-ups or advance our educations or careers. Whatever you want to change for the better Bookmans Flagstaff is here to help.

The new year for many people focuses on a fresh start. We set new goals for ourselves, which often involve a variety of health-related changes. At Bookmans Mesa you can shop in our book sections if you're interested in reading about how to make those changes. You can grab a fitness DVD in our sports section or find a entertaining and interactive video game that makes your workout fun.

The fun in Glendale isn't over just yet. After a wonderful holiday season at Glendale Glitters we look forward to attending the Glitter N' Glow Block Party and lending a hand at the LEGO FUN ZONE from 4 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Stop by the booth for free play with LEGO and join in a number of LEGO building and stacking competitions. Have you tried to pick up a LEGO with a chopstick? You will at this event! Thanks to LEGO we've got an array of activities planned. Bring your child and your child at heart to join in on the fun. Get creative and in return you are sure to go home with a few special prizes.
It finally feels like winter in Flagstaff again and some of us are pleased that our ski hill will stay open! It is blustery and white outside, and folks are using our café as their own cozy refuge. Some of us love the snow and want to get out into it. January is "Here's to Your Health Month" at Bookmans and up in the mountains we think there's no excuse for not getting outside for exercise! We have snowbowl for skiers and snowboarders and lots of sledding hills. One of our other favorite places is the Flagstaff Nordic Center where the big snowshoe race is being held on Jan. 21. Bookmans is proud to help sponsor the race!

Free your home of unwanted electronics responsibly with the help of Gangplank Tucson and Westech Recyclers who will be collecting discarded electronics on Saturday, Jan. 21. Items accepted for recycling include broken or outdated electronics such as computer towers, cell phones and portable CD players (you know you still have a few of those tucked away) -- nearly anything you've held on to because you've been afraid to throw away can now be recycled. Dropoff is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Bookmans Event Center at 5120 S. Julian Dr.

Let's get green! Let's get well! Join us for our Wellness Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 21 at Bookmans Speedway. Many different local businesses and organizations will be on hand with free samples and information on living a greener and healthier life. Joining us will be Heifer International, Empower Fitness with Christine Draper, Zumba Fitness with Ernesto Perez, Liv'N'Healthy mannatech style, St. Elizabeth's Health Center, El Rio Health Center, financial advice from Waddell and Reed, yoga guru Sara Jean and Reiki Guru Tanu will be with us doing personal wellness, readings and reiki. Bookmans will of course be ready to help you find all the books, music, DVDs and whatever else you may need to green and health up your life.

In honor of the New Year Bookmans Grant trys something new this Friday night. We invited local karaoke/DJ company Tony G. to host a night of karaoke for the enjoyment of our customers and employees. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. We will have pizza and drinks for those brave enough to take the microphone and do their best version of Summer Lovin' with a friend.

That's right buttheads! It's time for Back to the Future and that time is 6:30 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 28 in the Bookmans Grant parking lot. This 80's classic was so popular it inspired a trilogy, a car fetish and catchphrases. Many of us grew up with this movie and it holds a special place in our hearts, including Michael J. Fox's iconic acidwash jeans and puffy vest. Back to the Future paired comedy and science fiction in a modern (for its time) and hysterical way.

It's time for us to introduce to you our newest product line Bookmans style! Join us for our first Bookmans Phoenix Block Party and Music Festival from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Bookmans Phoenix as we showcase our brand-new musical instrument section.

Books from our childhood inspire and delight us such as The Stinky Cheese Man, Where the Wild Things Are, Corduroy and The Three Little Javelinas. Love of Reading month is one of our most favorite months as if you couldn't tell since the word book is in our name. Community members who are also passionate about childhood literacy and will join us including Literacy Connects, Tucson Festival of Books, Pima County Library, 9 Queens and Altrusa International.
