What is origami? How is it done? What is it for? These may be questions you ask yourself whether your art level is a beginner or advanced. We had room for all at Bookmans Mesa’s last craft night featuring the art of origami.

Origami

Origami is the art of paper folding and often associated with Japanese culture. Origami as come to be an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. The goal is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.

Origami

Bookmans Mesa hosted an origami instructional class that was nothing short of amazing. “Cookie” Potter was our special guest instructor for this month’s craft class, and she walked us through the endless possibilities this art can bring. We made everything from animals to flowers to house decorations. This is an  amazing art project and can be used to repurpose old newspapers, scrap paper or junk mail. You are only limited by your imagination.

Craft night at Bookmans Mesa is popular and we had a full house for origami. If you feel as though you missed out, please come to our Crafting Class on Valentine’s Day. We will make Artist Trading Cards (ATC). ATC are a variation of the well-known trading cards one can buy. They are the same size, but differ in production. The cards are either originals or part of a very small edition. They are miniature works of art. Artists can make single cards or small editions. On the back of the card you’ll find the signature, date and number (if the card is part of an edition). All techniques and materials are allowed. Everything for our ATC class is supplied and the class is free. Space is limited however though, so please stop in or call us at (480) 835-0505 today to get signed up. Lets get crafting!
