We’ve all been familiar with Pokémon for a very long time – more than two decades. Any kid will remember the endless Gameboy games, cards, and media surrounding these little, animated characters. Today, Pokémon leagues and meetups are popping up all over the place. That said, there has never been a better time to join one.

You may find yourself asking “What is a Pokémon League?”

The official Pokemon website defines it as “A “Pokémon League is a fun and accessible way for Pokémon fans to get together and have some fun! League events are open to all Pokémon TCG and video game players regardless of experience level or skill. Using your own cards or Pokémon video games, you can play, trade, and even earn cool prizes! The best part is that you can do all this with other Pokémon players who love collecting and playing just as much as you do.

Pokémon League events are a great way to learn game basics and get the feel for Pokémon competitive play before beginning to compete in Pokémon tournaments. In fact, many Pokémon League locations also run Pokémon Championship Series competitions designed for Pokémon fans who are just getting started”

Starting in February, we are excited to partner with Team Rocket AZ who will be presenting an exciting video game challenge meetup twice a month at Bookmans Mesa.

Challengers at the event can collect badges, become a trainer under a leader, and win points for your respective gym! A wide variety of gym leaders will be available to challenge, with multiple battle formats in Pokémon Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.

Note that the rules used are based on the Battle Tree: no repeat Pokémon or items, sleep clause applies, no 1HKO moves, and mythical or cover legendary Pokémon cannot be used (the list of which can be found here). There is no pre-sign up required. Bring your favorite game to challenge with and come prepared to fight.

The battle is on!
