Help our shelter pets stay calm and safe during the 4th of July Celebrations
It’s the debut of Bookmans Orange Shelf Initiative! We’re teaming up with theHumane Society of Southern Arizona all summer long! Check here for more details about how you can give one to the Paws and Pages Literacy Program and get one with the Bookmans Summer Reads program. Bring your own book or pick one from the Bookmans Orange Shelf now available at the Humane Society!
This year the HSSA would like to invite veterans and active duty service members, as well as interested members of the public, to help calm our furry friends with an evening of reading.
The 4th of July can be a stressful time for pets and people alike. Many pets are fearful of the loud noises created by fireworks, causing great anxiety. Having someone spend time reading to them during this stressful time will make a difference in their lives.
All participants must be 18 years or older and must register in advance. Reading will take place in the Dog and Cat Adoption areas. All human participants will remain on the outside of the cat/dog kennels.
HSSA will not be open for adoptions or merchandise sales at this event.
A few things to remember:
- Sign up for your preferred hour
- Arrive promptly as all participants will be escorted to the adoption areas together
- BYOB – Bring Your Own Book or select one from our Bookmans Orange Shelf and HSSA Thrift Store collection
- Enjoy the time with your audience and at HSSA
HSSA will provide:
- Chairs or Pillows
- Bottled water
- Books (if needed)
- Directions on quality interactions with our animals while keeping everyone safe
