You throw open the door expecting to see carolers and instead: the great mare! A horse’s skull gleams down at you, eyes glowing with an otherworldly glint. The Mari Lwyd challenges you to a battle of wits!

The Mari Lwyd is an ancient Welsh Yule time tradition. The Mari Lwyd, or grey mare, travels from home to home, challenging residents to a battle of wits! Those who lose to the Mari Lwyd must invite the grey mare and her entourage in for drinks and hospitality.

Bring your poetry slam, comedy routines, rap battle, or any other open mic performance you think will cause the Mari Lwyd to admit defeat. Winners earn prizes by Scale & Feather Meadery! If you best the Mari Lwyd, you could win a Scale & Feather gift card or 5 oz tasting glass!
