After graduating, he published Cursed and has been continuing the series ever since.  Brent has earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering and a black belt in Tang Soo do, both of which prove useful in providing a bit of realism to the fantasy worlds which he creates.

J.D. Richards

J. D. Richards graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and holds an M.E. in Systems Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. He loves working as a systems engineer in the aerospace defense industry by day and transforming into a science fiction writer by night. What started as a simple Friday night hobby of reading and writing (they call it Literature Night at the Richards’ house, or Lit’ Nite) has turned into a passion. J. D. is fascinated by the liminal spaces within the broad human experience, and science fiction is the perfect medium to explore those spaces. His work focuses on characters who feel they live “in-between” worlds. The Blue Jewel (2019) is his debut novel, and he is actively seeking agent representation for his second novel in the same universe, The Emerald Princess (2021). His third novel, Beyond God and Devils, is expected in the summer of 2022. J. D., his artist-illustrator wife Corina, and their young family love life in Tucson, Arizona. They enjoy reading, doodling, and playing guitar. Their house is full of books, quiet reading spaces, a couple napping Russian Blue cats, and two rambunctious toddlers.

He spent 12 years in Japan as an English teacher and traveled to 41 of the 47 prefectures in the country to soak up the culture, eat delicious food and meet the locals. James is a lifelong baseball fan and since the year 2000, he has been an avid fan of the Hanshin Tigers Professional Baseball Team, whose fans are similar to those of the long-suffering followers of the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs. He currently resides in Tucson with his family. He continues to follow the Hanshin Tigers and travels to Japan often to see games. In addition to his passion for baseball, he likes trying exotic foods from Asia, studying the Japanese language, and traveling around the world.

His work has been praised as “able to conjure up a world in just a few paragraphs and leave you wondering what will come.” (Peter F. Hamilton). A weaver of stories his whole life, SF crafts stories in alien worlds that still make the characters feel familiar. His characters, while often having exceptional qualities, also have human failings and issues that draw the reader in.
