Event Details

It’s Nanowrimo month! What better time to start writing?

Have you ever asked where do poetry and sci-fi intersect? How can we utilize the lessons and motifs of speculative fiction within the constraints of poetry? How can writing from a hybrid of these genres uplift our stories in new and surprising ways?

This workshop will offer a short overview of crafting speculative poetry, and leave time to generate a few short poems inspired by common speculative and sci-fi themes.

About our host:

M McDonough is a trans poet living in Phoenix. Their work often reflects on the intersections of queerness, desire, gender, humor, speculative fiction, and grief. Their poems can be found in Exposition Review, Suspect Press, We Grow Anyway, and more. They currently work for the Piper Center for Creative Writing building creative writing programs throughout the valley. They are in their first semester at ASU, pursuing a Master’s in Fine Arts in poetry.
