3 Ways To Be An Amazon | Channeling Wonder Woman
The day has come! Not only are we getting solo female superhero movies, but the daughter of Zeus herself will be making her debut on the big screen. Early reviews predict this movie to be a hit and we’re not surprised. Audiences will fall in love with Diana Prince AKA Princess Diana of Themyscira, founding member of the Justice League, demigoddess and warrior princess. It’s no secret we have mad love for the purveyor of justice and a Ms. Magazine CoverGirl. Just ask Todd our Event Liaison in Mesa. In anticipation of Wonder Woman’s theatrical debut, we’ve created The 3 Ways To Be An Amazon.
1. Read Gloria Steinem
The feminist icon and the character of Wonder Woman go way back. In fact, Steinem placed Diana Prince on the cover of Ms magazine’s first issue in 1972. Frustrated when the most famous female Superhero was depicted as a damsel in distress in recent years, Steinem channeled her social and political activist side and took it upon herself to return Wonder Woman to her former glory as a fellow feminist icon.
2. Power Pose
If you haven’t seen Amy Cuddy’s Ted Talk on non verbal cues and body language you are surely missing out. Featured in Lean In, a power pose can raise confidence in stressful situations like job interviews and public speaking engagements. And of course, the most popular pose is aptly named after our heroine. The Wonder Woman pose with hands on hips, feet shoulder width apart and chin up will have you ready to rid the world of villainy and of course the patriarchy.
3. Accessorize
Throw on some bullet deflecting bracelets forged by the shield of Zeus, or a tiara that was used to cut Superman’s indestructible skin. Her lasso of truth can not only whip tyrannies behind, but can also be used as an alternative to violence, solidifying Wonder Woman’s role as a pacifist.
Though she has been a DC front runner since the 40’s, Wonder Woman’s mainstream presence has been limited to a short-lived TV show, a made for TV movie and one animated straight-to-video movie. Meanwhile there have been nine Batman live-action movies and 38 video games. Wonder Woman has had zero of each. Though these comics have their faults, Wonder Woman has been a pillar in the DCU for seventy-six years and will finally FINALLY be getting her debut in the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. We couldn’t be more excited. Pick up your copy of My Life On The Road, spend two minutes a day in a Wonder Woman pose, accessorize with purpose and head to the theater June 2nd to represent just like our heroine, icon and queen Wonder Woman.
