Get Crafty | Bookmans Recommends Geeky Projects
As you may have heard, Winter is coming. This means many different things around Arizona, from snow-covered streets in Flagstaff to perfect hiking climes in Tucson. No matter what your fave cool-weather activity might be, we recommend that you throw crafting into the rotation. Whether you’re a geek or not, you can be sure to find something to satisfy your creative side at your local Bookmans. Also, be sure to check our event calendar for creative and crafty gatherings across the state. When it comes to crafting, there is quite a universe out there and Bookmans is ready to help you boldly craft how you’ve never crafted before. All six of our Bookmans locations have a section dedicated to all different kinds of craft books. There are even a few especially for us geeks out there. Today, we highlight the best and brightest in the geeky craft world.
Who doesn’t love origami? Okay, maybe not everyone likes paper folding but the design of this book is pretty neat. These little folded designs would make great tree ornaments! The origami paper is actually designed to be folded into Star Wars characters. What do you do if you run out of paper? The book includes links and info to download or purchase more. I know someone out there has an aunt that would be happy to add this ornament to her collection!
Cross-stitch your own Trekkie badge with this awesome how-to book! I had never cross-stitched before I tried this one and it was pretty easy to follow. The supplies to this craft are inexpensive too. My favorite part of the book was the framed “Qo’noS Sweet Qo’noS”. Imagine how delighted grandma will be opening that on Christmas day!
For all of you extreme Star Wars geek crafters in the universe, this is your book! Make a Chewbacca sock puppet or knit your very own R2D2 beanie. This is the crafting book that will help you create a present for the Star Wars fan that has everything. If you need a gift for that one coworker (who’s name you can’t remember) that you got for Secret Santa, check out the AT-AT planter project!
For all the stitchers and knitters, this is an excellent way to challenge your skill level. There are instructions on how to knit the entire crew of the SS Enterprise. If you start now, you could have them all ready by the holidays and re-enact the episode “Deck the Holodeck” from Star Trek: Next Generation.
There you have it! To check out all of these geeky projects, keep your eyes peeled for crafty books in our stores or calling one of our Bookmans locations. We also suggest to ask or check out our employee recommendations, our shelves as our selection is always changing.
*Bookmans is your store to explore. We can’t guarantee stock, so if you are interested in one of the books mentioned, please give us a call and we’ll check our orange shelves for you.
