Bookmans Phoenix is proud to partner with Southwest Human Development and Valley Leadership’s Impact Maker program to fill hundreds of Little Free Libraries in Maricopa County. The Little Free Library (LFL) Children’s Book Drive gives Bookmans’ customers great opportunities to help. You can donate your Bookmans trade credit and/or children’s books to benefit Little Free Library until August 31, 2020. 

What is a Little Free Library? You might have seen one walking through your neighborhood — a friendly-looking box on a post. It might be decorated like a birdhouse. Maybe it’s painted with friendly colors, or matching the house that belongs to the lawn it sits upon. If you haven’t heard of this wonderful program yet, Little Free Library book-sharing boxes play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books (and encouraging a love of reading!) in areas where books are scarce.

Impact Makers is leading a volunteer effort to keep Little Free Libraries stocked in neighborhoods where kids don’t have access to books. Our Bookmans Phoenix location will have a donation box where you can drop your trade credit. Southwest Human Development will use your donated trade credit to purchase the books they need most from Bookmans stores.

Little Free Libraries in Phoenix

At Southwest Human Development,  their early literacy programs help young children build the skills they need to become successful readers now while laying the foundation for lifelong literacy. Research shows that all children benefit from a high-quality early childhood education experience. That quality early education is especially important for children growing up in low-income families.

Did you know SWHD and its partners have installed over 200 Little Free Libraries in neighborhoods? These go straight into communities that do not have access to books over the past 3 years. They continue to put more libraries out in our neighborhoods. With the help of Valley Leadership’s Impact Makers restocking initiative, there is a volunteer-lead effort to keep the books flowing. Join us in getting books into the hands of children.
