No, You’re the Best! Thank You, Phoenix
We’re so excited to announce that Bookmans was voted Best Used Bookstore 2017 in the Reader’s Choice section of the New Times Best of Phoenix Competition! None of this could have happened without our awesome customers in the Valley of the Sun. We consider ourselves fortunate to do what we do each day. Your support has helped us stick around as Arizona’s largest local used media store for over 40 years. With Bookmans locations across the state, we have Arizonans covered wherever you may reside. But today, we are highlighting just a few of the countless things we love about Phoenix, Arizona. Thank you for making our year!
Local First AZ
Statewide non-profit organization, Local First AZ shows that just a 10% shift from corporate chains to locally-owned businesses creates millions in economic activity, adds hundreds of new jobs and provides higher wages for workers in our communities. One of our favorite collaborations is with Local First AZ on the annual Arizona Fall Fest. This free, family-friendly event celebrates all things local to Arizona. Join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 4th on at Hance Park. Entrance includes crafts and activities for kids and families. Local business vendors will showcase gifts, treats and treasures. Guests can also purchase raffle tickets and bid on items at the silent auction.
City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation
City of Phoenix really knows how to bring people together through innovative programming, events, festivals, sports, free classes, family workshops and, of course, really pretty parks. One of our favorite examples of such things is Wednesday Wind Up (WWU). WWU takes place at Civic Space Park each second and fourth Wednesday of each month. This free event combines live music, outdoor movies, spoken word poetry, food trucks and community partners. Bookmans is always on site with our information and giveaways. In addition to WWU, Bookmans Phoenix and the City of Phoenix partner on Rad Reads, an event that takes place at Bookmans Phoenix once a month. Rad Reads hosts local music, literacy and learning activities all in one spot.
Phoenix Public Library
We love Phoenix Public Library so much that we revel in every opportunity to collaborate. With literacy events, storytimes and workshops at each branch, PPL is spreading educational love all over the city. We co-present Story Garden at Bookmans Phoenix. Story Garden is an interactive story time each Wednesday at 10 a.m. featuring our favorite storyteller, Mr. Eden of the Phoenix Public Library and First Things First! Hang out and have fun with music, books, games and more. Children of all ages are welcome and parents are encouraged to participate. Every child will receive a free book each week. Come grow with us!
Phoenix Art Museum
Did you know that Phoenix Art Museum hosts a free weekend every month? That’s right! Check out all the art and activities on the second weekend of each month at the Discount Tire Family Weekend at Phoenix Art Museum. Be sure to venture to the Phoenix Art Museum Library and join us for Bookmans Family Storytime on the second Saturday of each month at 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm. The theme of storytime changes to reflect the exhibits at the museum, so there’s always something new to sing, dance or create!
Open Air Market at Phoenix Public Market
Explore all the local wares, tastes and treasures that the Open Air Market boasts! Located at Phoenix Public Market, this community event takes place every Saturday. Bookmans is super excited to sponsor the annual Phoestivus market at Phoenix Public Market this year! Phoestivus is a fundraiser for the Phoenix Public Market, a program of Community Food Connections, a a 501c3 non-profit organization. CFC creates a downtown community gathering place by supporting small farmers and businesses that strengthen sustainable food systems and produce healthy products for the local community. Bookmans will have a rad booth with a Little Lending Library, prizes and more.
Phoenix New Times
This one goes without saying. But we’re gonna say it anyway! We love working with the Phoenix New Times on annual events like the upcoming Best of Phoenix A’Fare and Viva Phoenix Music Festival. We’d like to extend an extra big THANK YOU to the Phoenix New Times and all of you amazing Arizonans for voting us Best Used Bookstore 2017. You rock.
Like we said, there are too many fabulous things in Phoenix to count. But be sure to check out the aforementioned awesomeness and leave your suggestions for amazing Phoenix institutions in our comment section. For those who have been with us for a while, you have seen us grow and spread quirky, literary, geeky vibes across the state of Arizona. If you’re new to Bookmans, we hope you stop in this Fall to catch an awesome free event, excellent deals and a wonderland of incredible media. Bookmans is delighted to see you each day in our stores and out in our local community. Thank you!
