Did you know summer is one of the busiest times of the year at Bookmans? School is out, and we have much more than just air conditioning and a place to bring your couped up children and pets. With summer nearly at its peak and July being Anti-National Boredom Month, we’re ramping up our in-store events and getting out to the community in all kinds of ways.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Bookmans donates books to over 30 Little Free Libraries in Tucson?  Be sure to check out the library we dedicated during National Poetry Month at Cyclovia on the corner of 6th Ave and 7th St in front of Exo Coffee.

If you’re searching for something to do to beat those summer boredom blues find us in the community at these events in June and July. You can get a free book about insects, animals, and nature Adopt-a-Bee with Tohono Chul. We’ll have our musical instrument petting zoo and Rockstar photobooth during Kidsfest at the TCC. If you’re gearing up for back to school, we’ll be at Badges and Backpacks and the SALEF Saftey and Health Fair. We’re teaming up with the community food bank for Feed the Fun Game Night. And you can visit us at MegaMania! Up north, you can say hi to Bookman at Pride in the Pines in Flagstaff.  

Bookmans Summer Reads

You’ve probably heard about our Summer Reads program by now. In case you haven’t, each store is partnering with a literacy non-profit for this rewards venture. For every nine books you buy and add to your Summer Reads card’s bookshelf, you get a tenth book FREE. Plus, when you return your card to our stores, we’ll DONATE a book to a local literacy non-profit. For example, Bookmans Northwest is partnering with Paws and Pages Literacy Program part of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s Education program! How’s that for summer fun?!

Orange Shelf Initiative

Coming soon be sure to look for games and books provided by Bookmans in some of your favorite local spots. We already have games available Tucson-favorite Bisbee Breakfast Club locations and Crema Coffee Shop in Marana. If you are a business owner and want one of our signature orange shelves in your store contact (store)events@bookmans.com. Our signature orange shelf will make its debut at the Humane Society of Southen Arizona’s Paws and Patriots event happening on July 4th. Plus, at the end of July, we’ll have a shelf in the Conservation Learning Center at the Reid Park Zoo!

In-Store Events

There’s summer fun for every kind of interest happening at your local Bookmans store. If you’re burning through your TBR books during the hottest days of the year, you might want to join one of our book clubs. We even have a cookbook club for foodies! For creative types, we have write-ins at all of our Tucson stores, Studio Nights and kids crafts at every location, and a Creators Mixer at Bookmans East. If music is your thing, take your mind off the heat with tunes from the Sonoran Surfers, attend workshops like our monthly Ukelele Jamboree at Bookmans Phoenix or bring your own vinyl to our social spins.

When it comes to comic books and graphic novels you won’t want to miss the Geek Fest Mini Comic-Con at Bookmans East and the Phoenix Independent Comics Show. If games are your thing, we have Pokemon events pretty much all the time. Then there’s the monthly video game tournaments at every store, and RPG Night at Bookmans Mesa and Bookmans Northwest. In fact, our Northwest store just added another D&D campaign. Plus Bookmans Midtown and Northwest are working with local gaming company Binary Cocoa! You can play games prototype board games that aren’t even available on the market yet! Frog Chess anyone? Finally, bring the kiddos to Bookmans to do what we do best: read!

We have weekly storytimes, and every store and Bookmans Northwest is having Storytime with Sign and you don’t want to miss Drag Queen Storytime at Bookmans Flagstaff!

Summer Kids Events

Don’t miss our summer kids events all summer long at every location! Not only are they the perfect way to fill your children’s summer schedule with fun, educational play times, but it also – and always – totally free. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
