A new year isn’t just a change about changing out your calendar. It’s the time of year when we take stock of our lives, past, present, and future, and look to the new year with hopefulness about what can be. At Bookmans, we make sure that every January we remind you that this is your chance to make the new year anything you want it to be. That’s why we call it the month of New Year, New You!
Explore Something New
January brings us all the opportunity challenge ourselves to make our lives richer moving forward. To us, that means exploring new hobbies, being open to new opportunities, and discovering something new to fall in love with. Bookmans Mesa is the place to put the best new you forward and paint your passion with the Studio Nights: New Year, New You event. Over in Phoenix, local artists and artisans will be gathering at the New Year, New Things Market so you can explore the local makers of your community. Want to get to know the local makers in Tucson? The Meet Your (Local) Maker Fair is coming to our Northwest store where they will also be hosting a  live Tarot Reading so you can glimpse your future!
Get Crafty
Cut+Paste Phoenix’s last event at our Mesa store was a max capacity, and this month they will be heading to Bookmans Phoenix for an awesome Make & Mingle Craft Club for Adults. Another way you can get crafty (and organized!) in 2019 is by attending the Studio Nights: Bullet Journal event at our East store! Maybe you’re just looking for something good to eat. Why not join the East store’s brand new Cookbook Club and make this year the tastiest one yet. HeatSync Labs is teaming up with Bookmans Mesa again for  “New Images! New You!” Introduction to Mobile Photos too!
Up at our Flagstaff store, local musician and Bookmans regular musical guest Matthew Henry Hall will be teaching music newbies how to play guitar at the Beginner Guitar Workshop. You can also learn the basics of guitaring at Bookmans Mesa’s Learn Guitar Workshop. Our Northwest store is getting crafty with their Studio Nights: Cross Stitch event. If your resolution was to meet new people, the best place to meet people with common interests is Phoenix’s Fandom Friday Meet & Greet event! Exploring your artistic side can be daunting, but Bookmans East’s Studio Nights is an easy and non-stressful way to express yourself with paint.
The Write Stuff

Though NaNoWriMo takes place in November, the NaNoWriMo team knows that writing happens all year long. Bookmans’ Tucson stores are hosting writing night meet-ups at Midtown and Northwest in January to help more writers connect and share their work. More and more readers are discovering new favorite authors at our author events, and we’ve got two awesome authors coming to our stores in January! Flagstaff is thrilled to present An Evening with Annette McGivney, author of Pure Land, on January 12th. Not only will Annette McGivney be signing copies of her book, but she’ll also be hosting a Q&A with the audience! Author Ana Levley will be on hand at Bookmans Phoenix signing and selling copies of her addictive book Beasts: Beginning of the End on January 26.

Game On!

Since Bookmans started hosting Dungeons & Dragons events, we’ve had packed tables full of new adventurers! This month, Bookmans has 4 D&D coming your way – and more in the future too. If you’ve got the basics of the game and character creation down but haven’t yet played the game, the beginner’s D&D campaign at Bookmans East and the Dungeons & Dragons beginner’s campaign at Midtown are where you’ll want to be. Still developing your character and learning the rules of gameplay? Bookmans Northwest has 101 events on Jan 19th and 20th.

Gamers, we’ve got tabletop, RPG, and video game events ready to rock your January socks off! Board game nights are happening at Bookmans Midtown, Phoenix, Mesa (twice) on Jan 14th and 17th. Come on down and play with Bookmans and Arizona Game Fair! There are also Super Smash Bros Melee Tournaments at Northwest and Midtown where you can win prizes for your SSB skills!

We’ve also got Pokemon meetups, Tucson Fringe Festival previews, YWCA reading recommendations, ChildHelp fundraising during Superhero Saturday, and local Tucson Jazz Music Festival partnerships in store for January 2019!
