What Bookmans Wants
*Bookmans does not give online quotes for trade items in the comments. If you would like a price quote for your items, items must be brought into a Bookmans store for evaluation.
Everyone loves to shop at Bookmans, and we couldn’t be happier about that! Bookmans is known throughout our communities for many things, but the one thing that customers always want to know more about is what we want to trade. When customers come to our trade counters with boxes full of goodies, our buyers overflow with anticipation. What will be in this box? Will it be something unique? Something collectible? Something that is going to fly off our shelves?
BRING US YOUR MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS! Whether it’s an acoustic guitar, a drum set, an old Casio keyboard, or something off the wall like a singing Tesla coil, we want it. Bring in any and all instruments you have at all Bookmans stores.

For anyone uninitiated, Bookmans has a Buy-Sell-Trade business model. When we say that our shelves are stocked by our community, we mean it. Here’s how it works:
- You bring your gently-used and lovingly cared-for items to a Bookmans trade counter. These items can range from books to vinyl to vintage action figures to jewelry and beyond. If you’ve been in a Bookmans store, you know we carry just about anything and everything on our shelves.
- Bookmans’ buyers will take your items/boxes, and from there, you are free to leave and come back, browse our store, play some video games at our game station – whatever you like to pass the time.
- Bookmans’ buyers are trained to evaluate the items brought in based on several criteria. The basic criteria are:
a) Item condition. A much-desired item in great condition is best.
b) Item sellability. Our goal is to resell our trade items, but not all items, even ones in great condition, are good sellers.
c) Our current stock. Bookmans’ supply lines extend far beyond our orange shelves. Our buyers will consider how many of these or similar items we currently have in stock both on our shelves, in our backstock, and in our warehouse. - When you return to the trade counter, your buyer will give you a trade offer. These offers all come in trade credit and cash. Trade credit is always significantly higher than cash offers. Obviously, we want to encourage customers to find something new they love at our store.
- The buyer will return all of the items that they are not including in the trade offer to you. The choice to accept or decline the offer is all yours.
Trust us when we tell you that we want your trade items as much as you want to give them to us. The last thing we want to see is a look of disappointment on our customers’ faces when they get the items they brought in to trade back without an offer. Bookmans wants to help everyone get top-dollar for their items on all future trades. That’s why we’ve created a ‘Bookmans Wants’ board at every store.
So what are our stores looking for this month? Find out below! Bring in these specific titles that we’re on the hunt for and you’ll earn top dollar on your offer!

You would have to call your local Bookmans to gauge what they are offering for that PS4. The buyers make the decisions on what we offer in trade and cash. Thanks!

Hello Mel! We will take books to recycle or donate to literacy nonprofits, however, we do not offer the same for other trade items that are not accepted by our buyers. I hope that helps!
Are you interested in magazines at all? I have about 5 years worth of Sunset, Phx mag, Bon appetit, and AZ highways
Hello Jessica, We typically want to buy magazines that are from the last 6 months. If you have any specialty or collectors issues, I’m sure the buyers would like to take a look.

Hi, I have my parents albums from the 1950 & 60’s. Any interest in those?
Hello, Robin! We typically would want to see classic titles and artists with records in great condition (or better) from that era. Our stores would be happy to take a look, though!
So do you guys buy laserdisc movies and music??

Do you guys buy personal computers or Mac tops ever?
Hello Tanner! We do not often buy those items, but you can certainly give it a try. Our buyers have different items they are looking for all the time and they may be interested in making an offer on a personal computer.
I have a bunch of VHS and was wondering if you would be interested in them ? They are all in good condition. Where are you located at ? What is the average price for VHS’s ?

Hey Jennifer! We do take textbooks in trade from time to time, however, only our buyers can make the call about whether or not they are accepting them at this time. Typically, if the book is very recent (within a year), it will be considered.
Hello, does Bookman`s know of any outlet in Tucson that deals in older issues of Playboy magazine?
Years 1999 thru 2005, most sealed in mailing envelopes.
Hello Harry, Unfortunately, I do not have any local recommendations for the collection. I would suggest a private sale and recommend an online site like Heritage Auctions. https://www.ha.com/. I hope that helps!
Hi there, does Bookman’s take antiques? Like Roseville pottery?
Hello Jeanette, Yes, we do take antiques, however, it is up to our buyers to decide which items they are interested in making offers on. If you have specific items in your collection I recommend bringing them or a sample into the store for evaluation or calling the store and asking to speak with a buyer. All Bookmans stores’ phone numbers can be found here: https://bookmans.com/#stores
Do u accept cookbooks. I brought in 2 books on vegetables and chinese. They weren’t accepted. Can u tell me why? They r hardcover and barely used.
Hello Jen. I’m sorry that we could not take your books at this time. Though we wish we could take everything our customers bring in for trade, our buyers make decisions about what to make offers for based on a variety of factors. Though quality certainly is one of those factors, the store’s current stock, backstock, and our shared warehouse stock of similar items are likely the reason why the buyer did not make an offer on your cookbooks. That doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t be interested in your books at another time. At this time, however, the buyer felt that the books were either redundant to the current stocks or simply would not sell at this time.
Are there certain days that are better than others to bring things in to see if the buyers are interested? And would complete LEGO’s with instruction books be something of interest? I consider them entertainment but not sure the buyers would….
Hello Paula! Our buyers are on shift every day of the week, but Saturdays and Sundays can be particularly busy for them, as are most nights. If you have availability in the daytime to bring those in, there’s a fair chance it will be a much faster trade situation. I believe that LEGO items are something they would be interested in, but I couldn’t give you a definite answer. Only buyers can make an offer.
Any interest in old IBM software? These are on floppy disks.
Hey Darrel! We will not be able to resell software, I’m afraid. Sorry!
Are you accepting any 500-1000 piece jigsaw puzzles that are not missing any pieces?
Yes, absolutely!
Great!! See you soon!
Do you buy Reader’s Digest Condensed Books?
Hello Linda, We are typically only interested in trading on new editions. Thanks!
Hello, can I donate my used textbooks to Bookmans?
Hello Rachel! We do not accept donations, but we will look through your textbooks if you would like us to make a trade offer. I cannot guarantee that any of your textbooks would be accepted, however, as their resale tends to ebb quite frequently from semester to semester. We’re happy to take a look, though.
Well, they absolutely did NOT want my Magic Cards today; I guess this June 2019 Wants List is out of date.
My bad.
I’m sorry, Alex. Which store were you visiting when this happened?
Greetings! Is there a time of the year when fitness DVDs sell/trade better? I’m speculating that people workout more indoors during the summer, so they are a popular trade item. Thanks!
Like you, I think that summer time is the best time for fitness DVDs! It is up to the individual buyers at our stores what they want to make an offer on, but now seems like the best time to trade those!
