Bookmans Midtown | Top Album Recommendations
It’s June’s Tunes here at Bookmans! The store to explore has mad love for all things geek and that includes music. Whether it’s classic rock like Zeppelin, funk like George Clinton or something a bit softer like Joni Mitchell, we love all types of tunes. That’s why we asked our Musical Instrument Department at Bookmans Midtown to share their favorite albums. These albums never get old for our team members, with each album serving as an introduction to their love of music. Maybe you’ll know a few mentioned here or gain a new favorite yourself.
MI department supervisor James loves the album Decompositions by Amigo The Devil. Amigo The Devil plays non- traditional folk music. The sound tends to be dark, folky, but still fun and is written from the perspective of serial killers.
Byron loves the album “O” by Damien Rice. “I love this album, because it’s so raw and untouched with simple but effective songs, full of real emotion and beautiful harmonies. Damien Rice is always my fallback artist for inspiration.” We couldn’t agree more Byron!
Byron’s other go-to album is Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails. “It’s totally the other side of the music genre spectrum than Damien Rice, but always strikes a chord with me. I’m very much into old school industrial and goth music as well as dark folk/Americana music such as The Civil Wars and Johnny Cash.”
Colin Sam’s favorite albums are Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins and Abby Road by The Beatles. It’s no secret as to why both these albums are classics. The Smashing Pumpkins second studio album contains such tracks as “Cherub Rock” and the iconic Abby Road album contains “Come Together,” “Oh! Darling” and “Here Comes The Sun.”
There you have it! Just a small sampling of the types of artist and albums that have our MI department rocking out. Bookmans carries a wide variety of genres to explore and offers different ways to listen with CDs, tapes and even used and new vinyl. You can find it all on our orange shelves. So stop in and shop for classic go-to records or maybe make a new discovery at Bookmans.
