Growing up, Bookmans has always had a special place in my heart and ever since I was a kid, it was a dream of mine to work there. I would always visit the store and find myself completely mesmerized by the expansive bookshelves and the larger than life employees. Not only that, but I would constantly hear about all the generous things the company would do to help promote the love of literacy. I feel right at home with Bookmans and to have the opportunity to share my giving spirit!

This year, we decided to go big and give back to the community. Bookmans has invited three local schools Sky Islands High School, Agave Middle/High School, and University High School to create holiday-themed decorations. These decorations are made entirely from upcycled materials provided by Bookmans. We gave each school two boxes filled to the brim with books. Each also received decorations to work with. The results are just amazing!

Upcycling is the process of taking older, unusable items and crafting them into a completely new and improved thing. Upcycling, recycling, and reusing are at the heart of Bookmans’ core values. So is celebrating our community and supporting education.

By working with these Tucson schools, we hoped to spread holiday cheer and to ignite each student’s inner artist!

Now here’s where you come in. At our Bookmans East location, shoppers are invited to vote on the hard work and creativity of students from their own community. The winning school will receive $300.00 for their classroom to purchase art supplies! They’ll also get $200.00 in Bookmans trade credit! For each vote cast, Bookmans will donate .25 cents to Youth on Their Own – up to $500!

Youth on Their Own is a dropout prevention program that promotes the high school graduation and continued success of homeless, unaccompanied youth throughout Pima County. We want to dedicate some time to express our appreciation for Tucson’s youth and share some holiday spirit with everyone.
