MAJOR crush on a cute barista guy that is younger than I am. I called him the Baby Zebra because crushing on someone 7 years younger made me feel like a cougar. Fast forward a few years, a few chance run-ins outside of the coffee shop, and many drinks– I finally invited him to play in my jungle. 😉
Most unconventional Valentine’s Date was most definitely the time I went out on limb and had a first date on the holiday…he didn’t want it to be too serious and come on too strong, so instead of regular roses and chocolates, he gave me black roses and chocolate covered grasshoppers! I definitely did not eat the bugs :).
My best Valentine’s Day was exactly one week after my first child was born, best Valentine’s Day gift ever!
Most unconventional Valentine’s date was when a group of us (all single) got together to avoid being left out of the festivities normally reserved for only those who are dating/married/together. We went bowling – had a great time laughing and eating pizza, and most importantly, avoiding getting depressed due to being alone on Valentines.
Best valentine’s day was on my 21st birthday when I decided the night before to just buy a ticket and fly to Stockholm, Sweden and surprise my bf! From Stockholm we took the train up north to the Ice Hotel and spent 3 amazing days in a Hotel made entirely of ICE! It was the most spontaneous thing I’ve ever done and I have no regrets what so ever! Best time of my life. 🙂
Nothing too unconventional for me but last year we went to a v-day concert but happened to eat at a casino buffet prior. We got a little carried away with the incredibly good food and ate way too much. Could not even move to dance and enjoy ourselves at the concert. No more big meals before shows! lol
My most unique valentine’s day date was a picnic. We drove out of phoenix up towards Payson and found a field on the side of the road where we could sit and eat lunch. The weather was beautiful and the lunch tasted all the better for the fresh air.
My Husband and I (before were were married but after we had kids) were going to go out Valentine’s night. The friend we had lined up to watch the kids canceled on us at the last minute. We had no one else who could watch them, but we decided to go out anyway and just take them with us, even though they were 6 months and 3 years old. Of course, with all the confusion of the cancel and trying to line up someone else, we got a later start than we’d intended. Every restaurant wait that night was more than an hour, of course, and we weren’t going to do that with the kids. We ended up going to a sit down Pizza Hut restaurant. It also happened to be the night my husband had planned to propose. He went ahead and did it anyway. So, what was supposed to be an intimate, romantic night turned into a family dinner, where I almost didn’t see the ring he’d hidden in the box of chocolates because I was too busy with our kids. Well, we are unconventional, so I’d rather have a funny story than a romantic one!
My most unconventional happened a year ago. Taking a cue from a Simpsons episode I love, I had fourteen days of Valentine surprises. But the grand finale on Valentines Day was skydiving (still can’t believe she agreed to it.) I jumped first and waited for her on the ground. I calculated where she was going to land and quickly rushed over. She was in such a rush from the dive that it took her a second to realize I was down on one knee proposing to her. She said she wanted to be caught off guard by the proposal and I think I succeeded haha.
Big thanks to all the brave souls who shared their unconventional Valentine’s Day stories! These are some awesome tales, you all are a fun crowd. The winner will be notified by email before 2pm today. Thanks again and look for our next great Ticket Tuesday giveaway. ~Katy S.
Wonderful stories! I’m inspired to do something unconventional this year. Leave it to the greater Bookmans community to be so creative and interesting.
