Here at Bookmans, we love a good YA book. It can’t be classic Russian lit all the time. Sometimes you need a pallet cleanser in the form of a kick-ass sci-fi/fantasy novel. Especially one written with younger audiences in mind. If like me, you begrudgingly got to the last page of How To Change Your Mind by Michael Polland, you may be inclined to pick up a YA read that is (inarguably) more fun. These 3 YA titles hit shelves this fall and I can’t wait to read them!

Ninth House by Leigh  Bardugo (New Adult/YA, occult fiction, fantasy)

Ninth House comes from author of Six of Crows and The Shadow and Bone trilogy, Leigh Bardugo. She is no stranger to the young adult genre. We can’t wait for Ninth House which will no doubt be another thrilling saga.

“Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug-dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. In fact, by age twenty, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?”

Children of Virtue and Vengence (Legacy of Orisha: Book 2) by Tomi Adeyemi (YA, fiction, fantasy)

It’s no secret that we are big fans of Tomi Adeyemi here at Bookmans. After devouring Children of Blood and Bone last year we have been waiting with bated breath for the next installment.

“After battling the impossible, Zélie and Amari have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to the land of Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could’ve imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji, but of nobles with magic ancestry, too… With civil war looming on the horizon, Zélie finds herself at a breaking point: she must discover a way to bring the kingdom together or watch as Orïsha tears itself apart.

House of Earth and Blood (Cresent City 1) by Sarah J Maas (New Adult, romance, fantasy)

Of course, we had to include Sarah J. Maas on this list! The Throne of Glass and Court of Thorne and Roses series are among our faves. No one writes a badass heroine like Maas.

“Half-Fae, half-human Bryce Quinlan loves her life. By day, she works for an antiquities dealer, selling barely legal magical artifacts, and by night, she parties with her friends, savoring every pleasure Lunathion-otherwise known as Crescent City-has to offer. But it all comes crumbling down when a ruthless murder shakes the very foundations of the city-and Bryce’s world...

With unforgettable characters and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom – and the power of love.”
