If we’ve ever had a conversation about music, you’ll know I am a massive fan of folk. But I have a secret guilty pleasure that not many people know of. Today, I am coming clean! One of my favorite bands of all time is the Backstreet Boys. Yes, you read that correctly, the Backstreet Boys. Let me explain.

First of all, you know that one song where every time it comes on, you can’t help but sing it at the top of your lungs? Yeah, that’s me with the song, I Want it That Way. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat alone in my car listening to that song on full blast, totally singing my heart out. Then, there’s always that awkward moment when I look over and realize someone was watching my in-car performance. Embarrassing, but totally worth it.

Second, the Backstreet Boys keep getting better and better. If you don’t believe me, stop reading this and listen to their reimagined version of I Want it That Way. Seriously, go listen to it right now. Did I mention that the Boys came out with a new album in early 2019? Backstreet’s back, alright!

Their newest album, DNA, hits me right in the feels. They bring back many of the same sounds from their older music, but with a more modernized feeling. Some of my favorites are No Place and OK, which have a very acoustic/soft pop feeling, and then Breathe, which has a much more 90’s, original Backstreet Boys sound. They are so versatile in each song, and the harmonies are incredible.

A few nights ago, the Backstreet Boys were guests on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, where they performed a hilarious version of Sisqo’s Thong Song as a barbershop quartet, and it was everything I ever dreamed of. It amazes me that this band is still going strong after 26 years of being together. I cannot wait to hear what else they have in the works.
