Cartoons are a wonderful thing. Once deemed to be only for kids, the world of animated shows have expanded to a much wider audience, appealing to both children and adults. Although I am basically a kid trapped inside the body of an adult, I do love me some cartoons! Here are my current top five favorite animated shows!

Rick and Morty

There are not enough words to express how much I adore this show. Rick and Morty is deep, twisted, thoughtful, controversial, morbid, and downright hilarious. This show follows the adventures of a genius alcoholic scientist Rick and his anxious grandson Morty. When I first got into this show, I definitely spent hours and hours binge watching it all the way through.

The Dragon Prince

From the creators of Avatar the Last Airbender, The Dragon Prince is one of my favorite shows right now. This epic medieval fantasy is filled with twists, turns, and a heart-wrenching plot. Here’s the best part: one of the characters is deaf and uses actual American Sign Language throughout the show. This show is dark enough for adults to enjoy but funny and exciting enough for kids to watch as well. I am beyond excited to watch season two which will be releasing sometime in 2019.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

I will be honest, I wasn’t a huge Star Wars fan growing up. That is until I watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars. My favorite part of this show is how you get a deep inside perspective of life as a clone. In the movies, I always felt that the clones were often brushed aside without any backstory. In this show, the clones are one of the main focuses, with each clone having their own personality. If you want an easy way to jump into the Star Wars Universe, check this show out!

Futurama

If you like The Simpsons, you will be in awe of Futurama. Perfectly timed and clever humor, this show is everything I love an animated series to be. Calling all science fiction enthusiasts! There are so many hidden motifs, obscure math references, and nods to great authors like Issac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and many more. Then there are characters like the ever so arrogant and ruthless robot Bender Bending Rodriguez. Honestly, his presence in the show is the icing on the cake for me.

Avatar the Last Airbender

Avatar the Last Airbender was one of the first animated shows I really got into. This series not only has the perfect amount of humor and action scenes but also carries some beautiful wisdom and morals along with it. It is one of the most quotable animated series out there. Look out! The creators Avatar the Last Airbender recently announced that they are working on a live-action retelling of the airbender’s story.
