June means different things to different people. For kids, it’s the end of school; for teens, it’s all about being social and having fun. Adults are looking for a reprieve from the heat and some warm weather things to do to keep the summer exciting. Here’s the great news – Bookmans has it all!

Before we dive into the free events at Bookmans stores and tell you where we’ll be hanging out in the community, we need to tell you about our brand new Bookmans Summer Reads Get-One-Give-One offer. From June 1 until September 1, 2019, Bookmans is rewarding readers with a free book for filling up their bookshelves on their Summer Reads cards! For every nine books you purchase at our stores, new or used, Bookmans will give you one FREE BOOK. Better still, when you turn in your completed Bookmans Summer Reads card and get your free book, Bookmans will DONATE a book to a local literacy non-profit!

You can snag a Bookmans Summer Reads card by visiting a Bookmans cashier at any of our stores. Don’t forget to start racking up those bookshelf-filling stamps while you’re there! You can get your new card stamped at the same time if you’re purchasing books. It’s never been easier to earn a free book and help someone discover their love of reading too. Our Summer Kids Events are also in full swing, so your little ones have weekly free fun including puppet shows, live mermaids, Harry Potter parties, Legos, and so much more! Check out when your local Bookmans is having their weekly event and mark your calendars for two full months of kid-friendly (not-sitting-in-front-of-the-TV) summertime fun!

Without further ado, here are the events coming your way in June!

Flagstaff

Bookmans is donning our dressy best and hitting the dance floor at the Adult Prom at the legendary Orpheum Theater in Flag. Bookmans will be partying down at Pride in the Pines on June 22, and we’re continuing our celebration of Pride Month with Bookmans Flagstaff’s first ever Drag Queen Storytime with Jewel! If our other Drag Queen Storytime events are a good measure, this event will be jam-packed! Bookmans Flag is not only going to be at Pride in the Pines, but they’ll also be hanging out in the summertime sun at Flagstaff Hullabaloo and the Flagstaff Blues and Brews Festival. They also welcome back musician Matthew Henry Hall for a live music showcase.  Artists will want to reserve their seats for Studio Nights with Creative Spirits on June 22!

Tucson

Down in Tucson, Bookmans East is starting June off with a bang at the Neighborhood Block Party on the Eastside of town. Join them and other local businesses and community members for a spectacular summer party. If you’ve got big plans to make this summer the one where you buckle down and read or write more, you won’t want to miss our write-ins and story sharing events. Creators of all kinds are welcome to meet and share their stories and craft at the Creator Mixer and get artistic at our Studio Nights. Bookmans Midtown is also holding their first Medicinal Drum Circle on June 29.

For gamers, we’ve got Super Smash fever! The Super Smash Tournament at Bookmans Northwest is always standing-room only, so arrive early to sign up for the challenge. If tabletop and board games are more your speed, board games with Binary Cocoa at Midtown, and D&D at East, Northwest, and Midtown too.

Kids are in for a serious treat with our Kids Movie and Craft Nights! At the Northwest store, they’re watching The Last Unicorn with Treasures for Teachers. Over at Midtown, it’s Hotel Transylvania 3. Both screenings include a movie-themed craft time too. We’ve got a new storyteller at Bookmans Northwest this month as well, and she’ll be hosting a special summertime Storytime with Sign sign language kids event!

Bookmans obviously loves dogs (please bring your dog to Bookmans!), but we love cats too! That’s why we’re helping some adorable (adoptable!) cats from Pima County No Kill find their forever homes! The badass Renegade Rollergirls are stepping up to help get some more pets adopted with Bookmans East on June 15 at the Paws for Pride adoption event! 

Mesa/Phoenix

This Father’s Day, show dad that he’s truly your hero at our Studio Nights: Father’s Day Edition featuring Super Power Portraits. The Pokemon League Finals with Team Rocket AZ are coming to Mesa, and Pokemon trainers are definitely going to want to be there! Missing Game of Thrones already? Join Bookmans Phoenix for their Farewell to Game of Thrones event and send off the series with a party!

The Board Game Gals are making Mesa’s board game night on June 19 that much cooler! Phoenix has an upcoming Family Game Night and Beginner’s Dungeons & Dragons too! Is reading more your jam? You’ll want to join the new Better Read Than Dead horror book club at Phoenix. We’ve got music burning through our summer souls and we’re thrilled to welcome the Sonoran Surfers at Mesa. Prefer to make your own music? Phoenix and Mesa both have Ukulele 101 events. The Learn Guitar Workshop at the Mesa store is perfect for a summertime strumming session. 

Father’s Day is June 16 and Bookmans has dad covered. Whether he’s a gamer, an artist, a musician, or a pop culture geek, there’s something for every dad at Bookmans!
